Oh man, I hope they can reunite them. These lost dog stories break my heart.

Did he come wearing that sweet necklace? Please do not bring him in the vicinity of the red bar.

I think Dogs that travel need those emergency contact things like you put on your kids. I hope these people are looking for him.
Why would anyone not have their cell phone on a dog that travels.

I'm from Albany (pronounced "ALL-benny" by those in the know ;-)), I know of several families that have homes in Seaside or nearby. Has anyone tried a reverse lookup on the phone number? If you can find the owner's name chances are good that I know them or I know someone who does (small town perk). PM me if you get a name. Im going home for Thanksgiving next week if he needs a ride.

I think one of the girls was taking him home with her tonight. I will swing by there tomorrow and get the number and do a reverse search and see what name comes up. It could be a cell number, but since it had no area code, I'm guessing it was their home number. If the phone number doesn't work for some reason, I'll call the Daughtery Co. Animal Control on Monday and see if we can do a reverse search from the rabies tag number.

They should also scan for a micro chip.

Thanks to Joe and Bob for trying to help this doggie find his owners.
The ASPCA recommends when you travel that you make sure your pet wears a collar with an ID tag imprinted with your home address, as well as a temporary travel tag with your cell phone, destination phone number, and any other relevant contact information.
You can purchase a temporary tag at most all Pet stores or order them online, similar to this type.

Let me know if you have any luck with the reverse lookup. You have a better chance with that than with DoCo Animal Control or any other govt agency in Albany.

I could call them or email them with photos of the dog and Rabies id #.

I wish somebody would take me to seaside and leave me there..

There are about 20 Vets in the Albany phone book. Eliminating the ones in surrounding towns still leaves about 15. You can go to www.realpageslive.com (local provider, BellSouth/AT&T) and drill down to Albany, GA Veterinarians. None had a website listed in their ads, like I said before - small town. I have a really good friend that volunteers for the local Humane Society in Albany, I'll call him and ask how they find a missing owner.

Thanks for the help. Let's hope the reverse lookup works. If not, I'll see if the girls can run him to a local vet tomorrow and scan him for a micro chip. If that fails, we will try the vets and the rabies tag id #. Maybe all of the vets share a data base of the rabies tags id.

The dog's owner CAN be found that way. Call it. I lost my cat in Nashville and got a call from my vet when someone found him and got the number off his rabies tag. (And this was ten years ago, when technology was not what it is today.)

Update:
We're getting close! I am trying to call the family that belongs to this dog. I'll let the board know when I've located them.

I found a dog roaming aroung looking lost in our neighborhood in Seagrove. I was afraid he would get run over, so I brought him into our home and then started going door-to-door in the neighborhood. As I was doing this, I heard someone yelling as if he were calling a dog. I followed the sound, and sure enough, it was the child of the dog's owner.
We had a guest staying with us at the beach last spring who accidentally let Pepper out. We didn't even know she was outside. I just happened to look out the front door, and there was Pepper looking in. It scared me so badly that I almost threw up.
Hope you find the dog's owners!

Thanks for the update, and for those of you, with kind caring hearts that took it upon themselves to help this doggie in distress.

Hopefully the owners will get a tag with travel contact on it in the future.

It was the family that I knew, they live full time in Seaside and part time back home in Albany. I tried to call them a couple of times at their number here with no answer. I emailed my boss who is good friends with them, I knew he would have thier cell number. His wife had just talked to them about the missing dog and they called back to give them the info after reading my email. I think the owner was at Perspicasity within 5 minutes. They are VERY HAPPY and THANK EVERYONE!

I forgot that the family's last name was etched into the back of the tag. I was thinking it had only the County name. I am so glad that dog found his momma.
