Can anyone report the details of the lady who drowned in the Bay this morning, when her car crashed into the Bay on the north end of Hwy 331? I understand her ten year old son survived.

So, so sad. My worst nightmare actually considering I have two kids (unable to swim or even hold their breath) in carseats.

What a crappy paper...standard alcohol tests are pending. Wasn't the woman driving home from the ER? I'm sure she just fell asleep, but this article will have many jumping to conclusions.
I hate that bridge.

why did you say she was driving from the ER? Did I miss something in the article?

How terribly sad and tragic for the child.

it's so sad when things like this happen, esp. so close to what should be a happy time for people.

I think the paper also mentioned other children at home, The memories for this entire family now have a new meaning today for this time of year. Several lives not just one have been touched by this. As tragic as this seems I still hold to the greater purpose and Gods power. Faith is so important at times like this. Our prayers are with the entire family and friends that this incident has touched. Someone asked what can we do, just my opinion here... Send Love and Prayers to them ALL

The article doesn't mention the hospital except stating that Rescue worked on her all the way from the scene to the hospital. I believe that with all fatal accidents, alcohol and drug tests are standard protocol.

hmmmm......can't remember

I believe that with all fatal accidents, alcohol and drug tests are standard protocol.Yes, they are--no matter who is at fault or how obvious the situation seems. A few years ago a man driving a log truck had a heart attack in front of my house. He crossed the centerline and crashed into my neighbor's yard, and died from the heart attack before anyone even got to the scene. He ran another car off the road, though, and that car hit my mailbox. Because the incident involved a fatality, the driver of the car was taken to the hospital for alcohol testing. Just standard procedure...

What a horrible memory for that poor child. Losing a parent like that is hard enough, witnessing it helplessly is heartbreaking.
My prayers are with all of them.

They like to print that (IMO unnecessarily) and I know of at least one family who lost a loved one in a car accident who was quite upset by what it implied.

That's what I'm sayin'. I like to light my angel and my Jesus candle in memory of people that have passed. Shani Marie is a beautiful name.

Since I don't jump to conclusions about alcohol involvement in traffic accidents, unless it is reported that a bunch of empty booze bottles or cans were found in the auto, I guess the writers note, "Results of standard alcohol test results for Day are pending," doesn't bother me. He does use the word, "standard," when referring to the alcohol test. Without noting that the test was standard, I can see how the reader might speculate.

They don't always say "standard tests pending". Sometimes they just say "results from drug & alcohol tests not yet available" or similar.
My first thought when I heard someone drove a car into the Bay at 4 am was that alcohol was involved and I also wondered what the kid was doing up that late. Saying she was returning from the ER puts quite a different slant on it IMO.

Just makes the story a little more dramatic. I mean if its standard why mention it? If it was the reporters sister would they mention that, I wonder?
Her baby boy doesn't need to read that anywhere. That's for sure. He is old enough to read.
Hopefully, it had nothing to do with alcohol, but a tragedy, none the less.

They don't always say "standard tests pending". Sometimes they just say "results from drug & alcohol tests not yet available" or similar. However, in this case, they did use the word, "standard." Maybe we read things to quickly, and our minds make assumptions based on prior stories we've read or heard.

I will add that if the reporter was simply going from an incident report from the Sheriff's Dept, there is no way of knowing that the victim was returning home from the ER.
I guess the reporter could completely left out the remark about the alcohol test, since they are standard anyway. That would help reduce possible assumptions. If alcohol played a role, that would make a new story once the results of the test were known.

Something needs to be done about that section of the bridge. This is the second fatal accident in probably six month. It is dark and dangerous and no place for a jog in the road.

Is this the place with all the dips as well? Bouncing hard on a few of them.....

It is dark and dangerous and no place for a jog in the road. There is going to be quite a change coming in the next few years and I am afraid that it will get worse before it gets better. But once they are widened and all is said and done it will still come down to being aware of your surroundings and the road you are driving on and not exceeding the posted speed limits. Which I think is 45mph on that bridge.
