Driving on the bike path

The other day I deleted a thread about this because there was subsequent confusion about who the driver was and I didn't want the innocent to suffer.

I don't think many people drive on the bike path, which along with driving on the shoulder is illegal for obvious reasons. In my opinion, if you live in the area and do this regularly you should be in jail. If you are doing it out of anger and frustration to get around traffic you should also not have a license. If you are a business owner and you are doing it then you should not have a business here. You are going to kill one of your customers and then you will see the inside of a prison cell for a very long time. Your life and your family will be ruined and getting to work on time or making a delivery on time will no longer be your problem.

There were a couple of winesses and a few others who have witnessed similar reckless behavior by the same person. I know this message will get back to him. To this person I say, imagine if one of your own children were killed by a reckless driver on the road, and keep that thought in mind every time you get behind the wheel. I doubt you make more money by rushing, you certainly will make less money (and probably already are) by having a bad reputation.

Let's all slow down and enjoy paradise. ;-)

Many times driving eastbound on Thirty-A in Seagrove, we've used the bike path to go around someone waiting a long time to turn left into Tom Thumb. Of course, we look for people on the bike path. I guess that's a bad thing to do, Kurt? If so, we won't do it again.

I plan to post a sign at our house for our guests reminding them to please be careful pulling out of our street. It's almost impossible to see people on the bike path due to shrubbery that blocks the view.
Cut the shrubs??

Yes, this is amazing to me. Thankfully I have never seen anyone riding on the path. I have seen people parking on it. I have understood utility vehicles servicing or working on something, but see no other reason to park there. But riding on it? Wow. You're telling me you can't wait just a bit? 30a is Never 'that' busy. Come on!

I wonder if there is some way to prevent driving and parking on the bike path? Probably not anything that wouldn't look awful. :(

Kurt, your post was excellent!

A childhood friend of mine (now deceased) got a DUI driving on the bike path after it was first put in.

Thanks for educating me. I thought it was okay as long as no one was on the path. Won't do it again.

When the bike paths were put in, it was too tempting for several locals. They HAD to drive on it!!! Guess they got over it.....to much patrol going on nowadays......Ralphie will get ya!

I'm not trying to be hateful or judgmental (especially since two of the confessing offenders are my peeps!) but it never would have occurred to me to drive on a bike path! I attribute it to my goody-two shoes, legalistic upbringing...

Y'all watch out for me out there--I'm naive...

Most of us didn't drive on the path, or think of it. But some did....there wasn't much to do around here back then.
