I saw something very strange yesterday

A big white truck (TDC) taking away a bunch of crap they pick up off the beach. The truck was filled with boogie boards, chairs, floats, and trash.

This is the first time I have ever seen this done (except for the usual trash removal) and thought they need a thank you.

They can set up a tent on the beach (removed daily, of course) and re-sell it to offset the cost of enforcement.

Did the BCC approve the new draft of the ordinance last night?

I get up around 5:30 for a sunrise run with my dog on the beach most mornings and usually get done around 7:00...Interesting enough when I returned to the beach access I use, my beach towel, flip flops and water bottle had all been picked up by the TDC trucks. Obviously they assumed it had been there overnight. Sooo, just be careful because if you're down there early like myself this could happen to you! They did return everything after I called :D

How's this for a legal strategy:

1) Remove all the crap from the beaches
2) Allow people to bring suit for any confiscated property and reimburse them for all property removed
3) Fine the folks in #2 for violating Endangered Species Laws (since they gave written legal testimony that they owned and left the items on the beach).
4) Collect fines, court costs, and 2x the amount they were reimbursed in judgment and use it to fund the clean-up program

I heard from a pretty reliable source that Grayton beach and beaches at public accesses were cleared out at 5:30 am yesterday morning, and maybe this morning too? (Thank you reliable source :D)

Here is the funny part- the owners of the tents, chairs, etc. had the gall to call the county and threaten lawsuits and whine that their stuff was removed. Seriously.

I hope the county has big enough cahoneys to tell all those people where they can get off. If not for emergency reasons, then the turtles must win out over some sleazy ambulance chasing lawyers.

Does anyone know if they are doing this on all beaches? We were down by Eastern Lake early this morning and all the tents and crap were still set up ... blows our minds how much trash (cans, butts, bottles) people leave in addition to their multitude of chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, toys, towels, etc .... are they only picking up on certain beaches .... what's the deal?

The other day while walking by Maravilla on Scenic Gulf (Old 98) I noticed a new sign up by their beach gate. No tents allowed on Maravilla's Beach. Now I am sure that part of this is that area of the beach gets so crowded this time of year - or possibly they don't want tents in the way of their chairs - but whatever the reason - Thank you Maravilla.
