For those candidates who lost in the recent low turnout elections, I will be begin picking up signs for my candidates today. I will begin picking up all of the other candidates who will not be moving on after the 30th of August. If you want your signs and frames back you can contact me here and we can arrange to meet. This is a free service. If I am not contacted I will get the signs and frames recycled.

So you offer a free sign pickup service and you recycle them? That is excellent and I hope all candidates take advantage of it if they are not collecting their own signs. I also hope you make a profit and can continue to offer the service. You might even get some volunteers to help collect some of them, in addition to the candidates and their helpers. A dropoff location in SoWal would be convenient and might add to your haul. Maybe the annex or sheriff substation?
Do you scour the county looking for signs or do you have set areas? Can you tell us a bit more about the recycling process and the end result?

Mr Magee advised in a post of a place. I will have to look it up. As for it being free I have other motives. I belong to an organiztion who endorses candidates. The metal frames can be expensive and that may be one less cost my candidate would have to incur. So when I said I would recycle I meant for the next election cycle and I intend to have signs the candidates don't want recycled.

Found it - I was mixing you up.
Please Pass This Information on to All Candidates
Attention all candidates, after the Primary on Tuesday many of you will be responsible for picking up your political signs. If you do not plan on re-using your signs in future elections, Gulf Stream Plastics, Inc. (GPS) located in Magee Industrial Park, 9646 Highway 20 West Freeport, Florida (12 miles west of Freeport 8 miles east of the Mid-Bay Bridge) will collect all signs and ensure that they are recycled properly.
The last thing that we would like to see happen is to have these political signs end up in our landfill. There is no charge for this service.
For any additional information, please call our office between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
850-835-6822.
Many thanks for your concern of the environment and being good stewards of the land.
John J. Magee
President/CEO

Just to keep ya'll updated. Today South Walton Professional Fire Fighters bagan our sign pick ups. Although we did not get all of the Cooper/ Braunstein signs we have made a large dent. From 393 west to the county line and most of 30a west of 393 have been picked up. Other members have started from 393 east on 98 and 30A. I personally picked 180 signs both large and small. We will continue until we have them all. If by chance, mostly because I seem to get color blind as time goes on, and I miss them, please post location here and I will do my best to get it as soon as possible.

Kurt, I will also be picking up our candidates signs in Freeport as I finish in the South End. The nice thing about those up here in the North, someone alredy did my job, for so many disappeared before the election. If those happen to reappear I will take them no questions asked, but alas they are more than likely in some landfill or barrow pit somewhere in a 3 county area.

Check at the DOT yard in Ponce de Leon. Many probably will not be retrieved so you could get lots of stands.

signs
I am sure Trisha Porter Hutchison would be glad if you would pick hers up. Mon. night they put them at most of the polling places and most of them were gone by Tues. morning, but, if you find them please do pick them up. It will be much appreciated.

Two notes:
I'm told that Robert Nelson and Mildred Wilkerson will be having a run-off election in Nov. I am sure that Robert would appreciate any of his signs being returned for use after these storms roll through. Perhaps he can establish a few drop off locations at local real estate offices or something like that.
Also, the metal sign posts don't need to go to the recycling containers if they are in good condition. Russ Opey at Copy Systems in Santa Rosa Beach, and perhaps other local sign companies, may be interested in taking them back for resale. I believe new, they cost only $.08 each, but why throw something away if it is like new and we can save some trash and natural resources? If I think about it tomorrow, I'll call Russ and see if he wants them, and post here.

They are closer to a dollar, and when you are buying 500 or 1000, that huge savings.
I hope the plastic bag signs catch on, so things will be easily recycled, and the ones that are removed by the freedom fighters will take up less space in the landfill.

I didn't put out that many, but, I started picking them up today. I think I got all of them in the north part of the county except along Highway 81 in east Walton County. A friend of mine was supposed to pickup the few I had in south Walton today. If you see one we forgot, please pick it up!. Thanks.....

Drove from PW to Blue Mountain last night and was extremely impressed with how many campaign signs have already been removed!
Thank you, candidates and supporters!

Yes. Myself and Mildred Wilkerson will face off again on the November General Election ballot. I am actively trying to get up my signs, especially any that may have gotten placed on public property. In the south end, if you could drop those off at the Republican HQ, it would be appreciated. I am going to take them all up and put them back out in October after the weather calms down a bit. I am trying to determine just how many I have and figure out what to do from there.
They charged me fifty cents each for those wire stands if I am remembering correctly.

Maybe I misunderstood him. Maybe they were eighty cents, not eight, and maybe you got a discount. Or, maybe the high-demand increased the price.

I hope they catch on too! Or that local sign companies become capable of making them for local candidates as well.
They're so much easier to break down and less waste, assuming the plastic doesn't blow off which I've seen happen before. From a national campaign perspective, I'm figuring that they will be much more efficient to ship as well.

I went all the way to DeFuniak today and am amazed at all the Cecelia Jones signs...no wonder she won the race!!!!! I quit counting, but I am willing to bet over 100 signs from 98/331 to 90/331..................It's going to be a lot of work to pick all of them up!

hell, there are that many south of 20 on 331. There are at least 20 on both sides of the road leading to my house.

Not to confuse things, but I bought my signs and stands from a local company in DeFuniak that does business with me.

Pick up
Most of 30a and the SRB area are clean of Cooper signs. A few stragglers on private property.
Lots of C. Jones signs...

yes. Lots.
It seems the people who put out the signs should keep a list of where and how many, then they can quickly zip around and pick them up after the election. With good lists, all the signs could have been removed the day after the election!

I wish whomever was putting the signs up would include a phone number on the back of the sign so they can be claimed or asked to pick them up. That shoud be a LAW!
