The ads beings referred to were published in the DeFuniak Herald and Beach Breeze which were distributed today.

An identical ad will appear in the Walton Sun in Saturday's edition.

These ads are paid for by the Walton County Republican Executive Committee.  The expenditures are [B]independent of the candidates and the candidates did not approve them[/B].  As an independent expenditure they fully comply with Florida election Finance law.

As a party we are free to expend dollars  in the manner that we choose as long as we comply with Election Law and Financial disclosure requirements.  You can clearly read the disclosures at the bottom of the ads.

For those that do not receive the two papers I am attaching a copy of the ads as they appear.

The WCREC is endorsing 4 registered republicans that are running for non-partisan offices - Robert Nelson (School Board) , Ed Wright (SWFD), John Magee (Mosquito Board) and Jim Crawford (Mosquito Board)

you know, we often vote across party line in local races.  as a democrat, this ad makes me nervous about supporting any of the candidates listed as supported by McCain/Palin.  I would probably not vote for any of them unless I knew them very well personally - because of the McCain/Palin factor, and just the way it appears - [B][I]very partisan.   [/I][/B][B][/B]

Most candidates for non-partisan races are members of some party or another, however, they have traditionally held the ethical road whereby they leave their party affiliation out of the race.  In this current race one candidate has her party affiliation out of the race, while the other candidate has not. Now his party seems to be joining his little game.

A low ethical standard does not seem to me to be a qualification for a leader my grandchildren's education.  Nor does it make me feel great about my grand old party.

Non-partisan means you are not [B][I]required [/I][/B]to declare your party affiliation.  Nowhere does it say that you [B][I]cannot  [/I][/B]acknowledge your party.  Also, no law says that a party cannot endorse a candidate nor does any law prohibit expenditures in favor of a candidate.  It seems to me that Mr. Nelson is trying to be honest about is political views and inform the public about how he believes.  If a candidate cannot do that, then these races turn into nothing more than popularity contests.  I intend to vote for Mr. Nelson [B]because [/B]he has been forthright about his beliefs.:clap:

Therefore, it must be about time for a NEW thing around here called ETHICS.  Very similar to that thing the preacher calls morals.  

They don't cost anything to have, but  they sure can cost a bundle if you don't.

I don't recall the REC endorsing any candidates the last circuit Judge race, and it's non-partisian like the schoolboard. That's because no Judge would allow an ad like that to be run for their campaign.
 
It may be legal to endorse a non-partisan candidate, but I think it's unethical.
 
This all just my opinion, and I know how much it's worth. I will say this about the ad....after I read it, It made me and my whole family vote for the other candidate in the race.

What exactly do you find unethical or immoral? :idontno: The local Republican party takes out an ad for the purpose of pointing out (as if we all didn't know already) the candidates who are [B]registered as Republicans[/B] according to the records in the SOE's office. Four years ago, Ralph Johnson was in the ad, although many of us crossed party lines for that one. As far as nonpartisan, all that means is that everybody can vote for anyone. It doesn't say the candidate can't participate in their chosen party.

Tootsie, you know I love you...but what is different this time? You previously made a reference to McCain/Palin...SoWal has become a all-day-every-day Obama pep rally, and I understand that's how many of the good friends I've made here feel, but there are [B]many[/B] of us who are carefully, thoughtfully, voting Republican all the way this time. Not just looking for the "R" and marking the ballot because there is an "R," but because that is what we believe. And it would be nice if we were not continually, increasingly getting bashed for our beliefs or being made to feel like lepers around here.  :(

Meanwhile, I clearly remember School Board candidates and Mosquito Control candidates being endorsed by the REC in every election in the last 10 - 12 years, and I've never seen anyone get their boxers in a wad about it until now.

Why is there and ad in today's Daily News from the Republician Party endorsing candidates, and one of them is a School board candidate?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Republician, but I don't think a Non-partisian candidate should receive any endorsement or advertisement from a Partisian party.
