Walton County is Republican Country

With 33 of 33 precincts reporting the Republican ticket in Walton County was the overwhelming victor. McCain carried 72% of the vote and almost every Republican carried over 60%. Adkinson won a contested Sheriff's race with 63% of the vote. The lone disappointment was Robert Nelson's narrow defeat in the School Board Race. Congrats to all the candidates.

P.S. Amendment 2 won 75% of the vote in Walton County.

While your idea sounds great at first read, I must respectfully disagree. The party you belong to and who you associate with is a valuable look into what you believe. Party affiliation is one way to separate the candidates on the issues and helps keep races from being popularity contests. It should not be the only criteria but it is a tool to help figure out who to vote for if you do not personally know the candidates. IMHO.
I understand what you are saying but at the local level there is absolutely no reason for party affiliation to be a criteria. I lived for 40 years in Oklahoma where party affiliation was not noted in local elections. It worked wonderfully well partly because people voted for candidates based on what they said they would do at the local level in the position they were seeking such as school board. Additionally, there was no "I'm a Republican and he/she is a member of my party so I am obliged to vote for him/her". The races were run on the issues that affected local citizens and no party politics were involved. While I understand your point, in local elections it is moot IMO.

The problem in many cases is that people do not agree with what their party traditionally stands for. Hence, there is no truth in advertising so to speak.😀

Essence of the problem

I respect your response. In my opinion, it's the reason Walton County voters keep electing Republicans to local offices by a 60-72% majority. Many voters just vote the party line. It's also the reason "good Democratic candidates" shy away from running for office. The odds of being elected are not good because of the reasons you just stated.

More and more, people with second homes move here and select this location as their voting place. Yet, many know nothing about local politics, don't really feel affected by local issues, and just vote the party line.

With such a large and diverse county, one wonders if we are really well served if all our officials are of the same mindset and just represent one group of "like-minded" voters.

My grandma used to tell me there was not a dimes worth of difference between a southern democrat and a republican. I'm sure it was true in her day.

I've ben a republican my whole life. But my party needs a face lift. It has abandoned the WORKING class. And the corporate bailouts.....if thats not socialism, I don't know what is. They were even talking about buying bad mortgages with our taxes. All that with the billions we spend monthly in Iraq IS NOT conserative....

The democrats are swinging more to the middle while our party is ALL OVER the place....

National & Local Government

:violin:I will get on my soap box. Hopefully Michael Steele will get us back on tract. There are just as many local resident who don't care about the local election as those who own a second home here. It is Sad to say but it is the truth. What saddens me the most is the number of citizens who want a government hand out and feel it is perfectly okay to take our money to live in manner of which they did not earn. It seems Americans have birth a generation of lazy people who are thrilled that the government will pass a law to take our money and redistribute it to them. Socialism is the kool-aide of the day. What shocks me most is: the number of non-blacks who want to go on a government plantation. As for the number of Blacks who want to be referred to as African Americans when none of them were born in Africa is amazing....as far as I see it you still have a plantation mentality and still searching for your identity. Why don't you try calling yourself Black Americans and drop the Africa part. My grand parents had Africans staying in there home. Guess what their opinion of American blacks were ....all black survivors were cowards who took that kind of treatment and didn't commit sucide. How about that one. To all of those who want and don't care if America becomes a Socialist country I say: THINK about it will ya! Stop saying this is helping our fellow American in need; I say hog wash. I should decided when to be a good samaritan with my hard earn dollars....not the government. Why do you want to be enslaved. Trust me you will not like what government control has to offer...ask any holocost victim, any person owned by another, anyone who has live under an oppressive government...they will tell you freedom is better. Lots of blood was spilled to provide freedom and now you want to throw it away.Crazy!!!! God created us to be free and one of the gifts he gave of which he has never taken away is the freedom to choose (two trees in the garden to eat the fruit thereof). signed Ovaltine

This thread ended three months ago. You may want to start a new thread, specifically one not associated with Republicans in Walton County.

Just a suggestion.

Yes it is time to move on. So why even bring it up? Stop looking for consolation when ther is NONE. You got hammered when it really meant something to you admit it!:floor::floor::floor::floor:
:idontno:Surprisingly many Americans want a hand out. Maybe some don't know what plantation life is like and have never lived in a socialist country.. The blacks that are descendants of slaves aren't mentally free from the plantation and it is the 20 th century.:idontno:WHO CAN FIGURE. signed Ovaltine

Obama straddles the fence and is a burr in our saddle. You are right our party has lost it's way and I hope Michael Steele will swing the party back. He started by cleaning house so that is an improvement and promising.😀Ovaltine
