First of all, it was great to be there in Winter, the only season I'd never been in SoWal. Loved, loved, loved the quiet of it! Deserted beaches, no traffic, even closed businesses were fine. Talk about a slower pace! I wish we'd had more sun, but I enjoyed what we had.
I love to see that some of the places I know are much the same--Old Grayton is still Old Grayton, for example. Really like the look of some of the new things--Alys Beach looks like it will really be something.
One of the things I really didn't like--I hope I don't offend anyone here--Watersound. That horrible building that houses the real estate sales office and whatever else. I'm sorry, but that is a monstrosity. And there are some beautiful homes there, no question, but the look is so heavily New England that I felt almost disoriented. And just how much land constitutes Watersound? That was mind-boggling.
One thing we saw down that we loved that is just a small detail was this amazingly interesting and beautiful siding going onto a house on the south side of Watercolor. It's shake siding done in a kind of irregular, zigzag pattern in shades of muted gray. Every day we drove by we marveled at that siding!

Well, it looks like stained cedar, but it is located in WaterColor. I will have to check my color charts and see if stained wood is an option for that neighborhood. (you laugh, but I am serious.) I have seen some great looking cedar shake in Watercolor, but it always gets a coat of paint. Always. I also see many mahogany doors in WaterColor which very often get a coat or two of paint. I guess I don't care since it is not my house, but that just seems ridiculously silly.Ugh, I hate to hear that. It is such a beautiful color right now, I hate to think paint will cover it!

Are you refering to the WC three story house on the south side of 30-A, to the east of the Inn? The one that looks like it is prepped for painting?
That does sound CRAZY!!! I think I have seen some nicely stained front doors in WC..maybe in "certain" neighborhoods it is allowed!!!! I am also loving the lime green house across the street....the house, not the price tag!
Okay...what fairytale is that house out of??? I think I could be quite happy, cozy and imaginative living there!!! Oh... and broke!

The lime green house, while is kind of cool, looked really great before they painted it. I have yet to see an unpainted completed house in WaterColor.

Must have to go to Watersound for that look.

According to my WaterColor books, that color is not in the "Martha Stewart Everyday Collection" which WaterColor uses. However, there are exceptions made by the architectural review committee.
That house has an outdoor fireplace, attached to the east side of the house, which appears to have the same siding lining the back of it. WTPh??? :idontno:

So THAT is how Martha continued to rake in the $$$ while she spent time "in West Virginia". She sold a lot of paint to Watercolor builders!

That's the one! I think it kind of looks like a church. The architect is Dawn Thurber of Grayton. She does great work!

Hmmmm, a church? Maybe that's because most folks would need a prayer or two to buy that place!!!!
Has Dawn designed many other homes around? I would love to see her other work...any pics or addresses?
