Not sure if it was prescribed, but OM got the location correct.

There look to be controlled burns that made their way down from behind Publix at 395 towards Watersound Beach. I could see them start and stop and move their way East all day from where I was.

The Forest Service over on 98 also had their portable sign out mentioning prescribed fires this afternoon.
Looked like it got a bit hairy because at 1:00, there was nothing but a few puffs but at 2:15 it was pretty smoky and at 4:20 it was downright terribly smoky on that end.

This was later in the day as the small fires moved East. I don't have a clue why I took this picture.

Apparently it gets smoky on 30A at 4:20 on a regular basis.

It's a joke. 4:20 is a marijuana reference.

That one went right over my head.
Remember, I'm outta the loop on those types of things, for 3 reasons.
I was literally driving by those areas at those times.

You probably know where I found the 1620

Does anyone else remember a time when fire depts provided pet finder decals for homeowners to display so responders would know that animals were inside when a fire occurred? Everytime I am coming home and see the plumes of smoke(although it's usually the planned burns) I worry that it is my house and that my animals won't be saved.

Have you considered a sign?
You can also purchase them here.

Go to SWFD.org and click on petinfo top right corner and i think you can get free ones there. If not i read in the paper sometime ago that Walton County Fire Rescue (North Walton) was giving them out

Check out today's fire.

These aren't really fires as that conjures up images of forest fires. They are controlled or prescribed burns.

I didn't know where to post this picture. I was getting buzzed by a bald eagle today over and over in Watersound Beach. I guess I was in his territory or something.

Ok. So I am driving in Grayton today with the sunroof open and I totally thought I saw an eagle pretty high up after I just happened to look up. Then I thought- nah...
After seeing this- Maybe so...

I learned about this on this fabulous message board (thank you, Daddy-O
). Just go to the ASPCA website, and they will send you a sticker for your home. Even though I have a security system that calls 911 in case of burglary, fire, etc., it gives me a sense of relief that if the unthinkable happens, they'll know to get Pepper out of there if we were out of town for several hours.SWGB

You better take care of that poor fire fighter.

That is so cool, AA. I hope the fire/burn wasn't near the eagle's nest. I had seen bald eagles last year, and just haven't taken the time to look up lately. Thanks for the reminder.
