FYI
Louisville KY (approx. 100,000 students) school system last day of school for students is JUNE 3rd. Was May 21st. Teachers' last day is Friday June 5th.
We were hit by Hurricane Ike - lost 5 days, then a recent ice storm - lost 5 days. (Schools were without power for a long time. Homes, some as much as a month without power. We lost power after Ike and have underground lines.)
We had originally planned to come down June 6, but after Ike, moved it to June 13. My husband teaches so it was getting too close for comfort. We still haven't had a snow day yet so we could be later still than this!
Other parts of the state were forgiven their disaster days, but JCPS has to make it up.
Also, people who use to come down for Spring break got tired of the cold weather during that time in the Panhandle and decided to save their money for warmer months. It will probably be 80 this year🙂 Spring break is the week of March 30th. Might explain seeing fewer people. If they take one trip, it will be in nicer weather.
This may not affect SoWal so much. We seldom see people from the Louisville area anymore. People go further south, Caribbean, Mexico, Myrtle Beach, Hawaii, Europe. I guess because everybody did the Panhandle when growing up. That's my theory. We love Scenic 30A and glad they don't join us. One note, I am from Louisville, not KY. SoWal is like the Cherokee/Highlands/St. Matthews area of Louisville - state of mind - without the beach🙂 Just wish there was a microbrewery🙂
