Needs to be repaved. Wondering why everything this way is newly paved besides Chat.

I thought they were holding off on repaving it because it was to be four laned soon?

Anybody out there remember the bumper sticker:
I lost my parts on Chat Holly ;-)

I wrote about this yesterday...glad someone else is noticing. You would think that at least they could paint some lines...it is so dark--it is dangerous especially when it is raining. I am always afraid I will drive off into the ditch, especially when people drive with their bright lights on!
I avoid it as much as possible, but it is the fastest way to get to my grandchildren just off Nursery......

Chat Holley Rd isn't that rough if you are driving the speed limit or less. (wink, wink).
No, they aren't 4-laning Chat Holley anytime soon, though they did consider that at one time. I've heard the problem of the problems of disrepair of Chat Holley Rd be brought before the County Commissioners about a year ago, and the guy from the road engineering department stated that it is very true that it needs repair, but all they can do is patch the holes, unless they get enough money to dig up the entire road and place the correct subsurface, which is needed. He said that much of the problem is due to the road not having a good subsurface, so just adding new asphalt on top will keep on sinking and won't make it better. He gave an estimate of costs and the Commissioners cringed.

I'm always yelling at speeders. Slow down, we live at the beach, not Atlanta. Relax into that beach lifestyle, honey.

I've gone into "drift" mode when someone comes roaring down the road. They usually brake when the oncoming car seems to be entering their lane.

I'm astonished that anybody would purposly drift into oncoming traffic, nevermind get kicks out of doing so.

I find it more disturbing that people feel they can go 60+ mph through places like Dune Allen, Seacrest, and BMB. To each his own.

I clicked on this thread, thinking that someone had questions about Mr. Chat Holley. Dang.
There is a picture somewhere around here of CHR, then known as Powerline Road, before it was paved at all. That was the LONGEST, most ardous ride anywhere around, but much funn if you were on a school bus, bouncing through the bumps...

Neither Chat Holley nor 30A are made for high speeds; we can agree on that. But why would anyone try to take the law into his own hands and punish drivers who are speeding? That is what you're trying to do, right? Scare some sense into them? Are you trying to prove that you can get them to slow down when a posted sign would not?

Whatver the reason is, I hope you think twice about 'drifting' into someone's lane. Just think of the results of a car veering onto the shoulder of 30A and then overcorrecting. There are too many lives at stake to be playing this little game.

It will always be Cano Square!Same as 83 being
dump road.[/
Cano forever! One time Monica and I went to the dump to drop off some bags. Remember the man with the trailer and the dachsund that hung there and accepted the trash? Well Monica and I got back in the truck to leave and I start to back the car out and I look in the rearview mirror...the dachsund is sitting in the back seat of my truck looking ready to go. I guess he was tired of that dump lol. The good ole days.

That was on 393, right?
The first one I remember personally was the little block building on 98, between what is now the Chevron and Ace Hardware. And I also remember Lillian Rooks, who ran it by herself!

Ahhhh...the dump! I learned to drive in a 1963 Ford Army jeep on all the papermill roads through the woods. One of my duties after my dad realized he could push stuff off on me was to make the weekly or bi-weekly trips to the dump using the back roads. I can still get around back there.
The crazy thing is that my GPS recognizes some of those roads!

I'm with you on that. The building next to the PO that eventually turned into the hardware store was a restaurant called Clayton's!
