I started this on another thread, but here we go again. We are on a mission to get The Conch Out (Grayton...see Kirt's virtual tour) repainted this year. At this point, will probably be early fall because the house is pretty well booked. If you know Conch Out, you realize this will be a task on a global scale and we want it to look right in its environs. So we are open to suggestions as to a suitable color scheme. The top contender at the moment is a seafoam green with a hint of khaki, dark green for the French doors, white trim, and a somewhat darker stain for all the decking. Someone suggested a color scheme that looked like the inside of a conch shell, set off with coral blush French doors and white trim...but, er... we thought that was a little too suggestive
As I said, we are open to suggestion. Just to make it interesting, we are offering a world class dinner for eight with a full compliment of Napa Valley's finest wines, provided by us at The Conch Out, to the party with the winning suggestion. (Upped the ante from the previous post, as penance for straying from that thread.) :welcome:

A view for you of the surrounding houses of Donna's Conch Out. The seafoam green may clash with the WashAway located next door. Donna's house is the pink Conch shell colored home in the middle of the photo.

I always liked the colors on Firenze. And I LOVE the Washaway. I like the fact that it has been there for practically forever. Has anyone ever stayed in it?

These are all great suggestions! And we are completely open to suggestions at this point, one of the advantages of painting later in the year as opposed to ASAP. After Dennis, our many south-facing windows and doors looked like the rim of a salted margarita, so we're happy to wait out the summer this year. I am printing everything out and keeping in a file, so please keep your thoughts and suggestions coming in. Such a help. As incentive, I will occasionally post the possible menus for the dinner, along with specific wines that could be paired with each. That will feed my Martha Stewart gene (which is certainly not a dominant one, but I do well in the kitchen).:clap_1: :clap_1: :clap_1: Damn you're good 😀 I could come do some faux finishes to complete the look??? I have been know to do a pretty darn good job! Worked a lot in Hotlanta doin' just that for more years than I thought I would...people just kept askin'
The interior of The Conch Out is sunny yellow with lots of white trim on the woodworking. When we first bought the house, I thought it would get old. Our CA house is all white walls, but also has a lot of river rock, redwood, and glass with views to outside as distraction. But I agree that a beach house, not your "real house," should be fun(n). Since then, I have come to really love waking up in that cheerful yellow-and-white world. Only one room differs, and it is painted a light lime green. We love that, too. Mermaid, I love your mix of colors, which really work in that space. It is so inviting and cheering.
Here we go with the first menu effort, folks. I want your minds working and your mouths watering!
To begin, S. Anderson Sparkling Wine, paired with a passed appetizer of salmon tartare with creme fraiche and fresh chives, on a benne seed wafer.
Next, a Cakebread Sauvignon Blanc, paired with an appetizer-sized portion of creamy grits with shrimp.
Followed by Far Niente Chardonnay, paired with a main course of Grouper stuffed with fresh crabmeat, grilled on a bed of limes. Accompanied by garlic roasted new potatoes and sauteed broccoli rabe. Selection of breads.
In the French manner, a Saintsbury Reserve Pinot Noir, paired with a salad of baby spinach, avacado, and Texas ruby red grapefruit sections tossed in a light vinaigrette.
Closely followed by a rare Forman Cabernet Sauvignon, paired with a cheese plate consisting of an herbed goat cheese, a white Wisconsin cheddar, a French sheep's milk cheese, a Spanish manchego with quince paste, and a Pt. Reyes, CA bleu from Cowboy Creamery, including mini slices of baguette, homegrown and cured Mission olives, whole almonds, pears and grapes.
Finally, Dolce Far Niente (nectar of the gods), paired with a fresh peach and cream tart topped with Chantilly cream.
Double espressos and selection of liqueurs.
(Complimentary designated driver to take you "home" afterwards.) 😀

I really couldn't imagine calling him John but it has fit him better than any name imaginable! All the kids thru all the years, have just loved John and his name, usually calling him Johnny. Now, the teenage girls are in love with him

That was a good thing to share Kurt...seems to be alot of green out there.
Are you calling me Kurt again, or are you suggesting that I am actually sharing Kurt? It really doesn't matter either way, just don't call me late for dinner. 😀

:funn: I am guilty of early morning posting w/o enough coffee and reading in the dark!! BTW...I thank YOU, SJ...I had suggested seeing how the other houses were painted before! I think it helps the BIG picture!

Mucho thanks to SJ for posting this panorama of the Grayton houses from the water's edge vantage point. Makes a very good point. The old Washaway could never be another color! I don't mind being the color of a conch shell (natch), but I loathe mauve. That is the color the house looks now, after years of sun fading, sandblasting from the storms, etc. Even the powerwash doesn't make it better anymore. I am off to the paint store today for chips. Thanks yet again for all your wonderful ideas and contributions...new sample menu to be posted this weekend. Yummm!
