why so many people coming to Grayton feel obligated to stop in Alabama to buy fireworks to shoot at the beach? At this moment the bombs are a-bursting out on Defuniak Street. Why? I guess the show will be over soon because the pyrotechnicians will no doubt be going to sleep early in order to be up with the roosters tomorrow picking up their fireworks trash:roll:

We have been guilty of using their products on the beach. We do clean up our mess.

Yeah but that was New Year's Eve. I understand July 4th and New Year's...but Palm Sunday? Did I miss something about the Pharisees tossing bottle rockets at Jesus as he entered Jerusalem?

Well, there are so many fireworks going off in Seagrove that Pepper is scared to go outside and take care of business.
It's pop-pop-pop here, too.

Oh My Gosh Skunky....there is NO explanation. That's been going on in Grayton for as long as I can remember. It used to be just the locals that would get out there and I'd be trying to keep my toddler Kalie out of the firing range. There once was a time when we loved living in Grayton....I wouldn't even think of living any other place....especially as far away as SeaGrove :funn: . Back then that was a long drive. Dune Allen was a place you passed twice a month when you went to WalMart for groceries. But life changed in Grayton in a number of ways. I still miss the old days in Grayton, but I've loved the quiet we found in other neat places along 30A. I think if you get the chance to live in Grayton at least once....even for 6 months you've been blessed.Happy Early 4th of July!!!!!

There was a big announcement on TeLevicticus about the bottle rocket tossing last night. Perhaps you missed it?

They are mostly overlooked in Grayton only on the 4th of July.

Same here in Seagrove, all summer long. I know the SO has plenty to do, but I wish the law was enforced, except for July 4th and New Year's Eve.

Because it's fun to blow stuff up and shoot things into the air!

Why do people do any of the stupid/obnoxious/illegal things they do on vacation?

Skunky, I was wondering the same thing last night, as they were shooting them off around Eastern Lake. Maybe they are lighting a fuse under the Easter Bunny's butt to get him off to an early start. My other thought was that they may have found some leftover fireworks in their rental house. Most likely, they did buy them in AL to impress a girl, or to look more cool to other guys. Did you ever see that youtube video of the kid attempting to launch a screaming bottle rocket from his butt, to up his cool factor amongst his friends? Ouch. Those sparks hitting his baby-soft skin, clinched him tightly, and the bottle rocket never lauched.

It used to be as simple as picking up a fireworks sampler pack at Publix.
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I'm usually kinda glad the vacationers feel festive enough to blow off a coupla rockets, even if it isn't the 4th. I do wish some of them would do a better job of picking up the debris, though.

I think the answer lies here:

SJ that had to be "JackAss" you saw. I recently saw this too on Comedy Central and was horrified they were showing it!

No, it wasn't "jackass." It was a bunch of 14 year old kids. I'm sure you can google bottle rocket butt launch and find it.
I'm all for festive people, but one of the great things about our area is being out in nature, seeing stars, hearing the waves, etc. Hearing fireworks is something I would expect in Panama City Beach or maybe Destin, but not South Walton.

Well at least it is fireworks, pop-pop-pop here means gunshots.
However we do get our share of fireworks even on nonholidays and Cinco de Mayo is coming up soon and it will be all night. Both fireworks and gunshots in the air.

Watch those bottle rockets, I had a friend lose their million dollar home, total loss, to one bottle rocket on NYE.
