For all of you nice folks that passed on hints to help me find out info on Bama Love....Thank You.
I really enjoyed researching her...she had a very interesting life. Married John Haney at 16, deserted at 23 with five young kids to feed and care for. (John killed his brother and then ran off to keep from being jailed.) Bama then moved from Al to Point Washington to be near her family. For five years she changed her name to Havey to protect the kids from the scandal of the murder that John had committed. In 2005 her father was murdered by a nephew leaving her mother and a younger brother to survive on their own. Bama's mother, Angie became one of the best moonshiners in the area. Her "juice" was famous and was even sold at the old Grayton Hotel. Soon "Love" came to Bama in the form of Thomas James Love, a young uncle in law of her sister Dessia. (By the way he was 7 years younger than Bama.) When she married into the Love family Bama sent off to school to learn bee keeping. The Love family was known for their bees and their honey. During her life Bama also served as the local midwife and healer, raised vegetables that she sold to the locals and also help to form a church and served as their preacher. She truly was a remarkable woman.
For those interested in viewing the quilt you can find her on my blog:

Ann, one thing I don't know - was Bama or any of her family buried in Point Washington? If not, do you know where? (I just get curious about things like that.)
You have done a remarkable job. Keep it up, please!

Bama's Resting Place
Bama is buried in Panama City Florida. I have a photo of her grave marker. It is hard to trace her daughters as they marry they drop the name Haney and so census records only show their married name. My research might not be accurate, certainly not complete... but I show her children as:
Johnnie-born 1877 in Peacock Al. Didn't move with Family to Florida in 1910. She stayed in AL. Not sure why as there are no follow up records. She might have died in childhood. In that case she would have been buried in the Haney cemetery that was located on the Haney farm. So far I have been unable to find any records on this cemetery.
Maudine- born in 1897 in Peacock Al. She married a Herbert Ward (relative of Wards in Bruce FL) She died in Ponce De Leon in 1979. She had one son, Dean W. Ward.
Lillian- born in 1895 in Peacock Al. It appears she never married, she died in Cabool Texas in 1936.
William Sanford Haney born in 1902 in Al. William made his home in Defuniak Springs. He died in 1984.
Julia Haney - Born in 1903 made her home In Georgia. No record of marriage. Died in 1984.
Her second husband Thomas James Love was born in 1884 in La....have not found a death year at all. Still looking.
