What is the difference between June grass and Sargasm?

June Grass isn't grass at all-it is a filamentous clump of algae (I think) which adheres to your line and bait like clumps of spinach. I find it almost impossible, and certainly unpleasant to fish in.

Sargasam is the 'seaweed' you are probably already familiar with-brownish/green clumps that almost look like little grape clusters. It is much easier to work around when fishing, but can be a nuisance as well.

Are there certain months for these or can they show up all year?

Typically the june grass hits in, you guessed it, June. I have only lived here 2 years, but I think the june grass is a little variable in onset and duration. It seemed like it hung around all last summer. Sargasum can show up sporadically for most of the warm months (so it seems to me).

It was here last year in May. And stayed past June as I recall.
