I was planning to buy in the area but the gunk in the gulf water at Watersound is really turning me off. Anybody have anything to encourage me?

No question the gulf has had very few days were it was crystal clear in 2009. My question is dune lakes. sanctuary by the sea is enclosed by 2 dune lakes. after the heavy rains last week i noticed the rushing brown water heading into the gulf. my question is will the gulf water near dune lakes mostly have a brown tin to to it or once the weather settles will it go back to mostly clear?

It's a matter of dilution. Thousands of gallons into millions.
Today it seemed that most of the outflow was moving East along the coast. We watched Deer lake draining and to the west was clear, Eastern lake was also open and draining a little, but diluted by the time the current reached the end of San Roy.

Western lake is open right now, too, but it seemed like the outflow was headed west

I was out on the second sandbar again the other day and while clear, it had an algae or fil-like grass out there. I could still see well, but that is what came to mind when I read this and he said 'gunk'. But as others have stated, I just figure with another day, it will clear away.
There are certain patterns, as people have suggested, like when the grass comes in. And there are benefits to those natural occurences. Btw, I honestly don't feel too compelled to protect the area's image. In fact, I wish I had more of it to myself lol But I grew up in Louisiana and this area in the panhandle was always THE most sought after vacation.
I think someone, no matter where in the world they traveled here from, would find this a very special area with some of the most beautiful beaches on the globe.

Exactly!
The most noticable phenomenon on the beaches where I grew up - in the 70s and 80s - were tacky, tacky high rises. I live very close to some of the most "popular" beaches in the world and we hardly ever go, except sometimes to Fort DeSoto or the nice parts of St. Pete Beach.
See, I am picky about beaches. I love going to SoWal, where some semblance of "nature" is still involved, and where we see actual "natural processes" on a regular basis, and where gunk collects and washes out and storms come and go and bring sand or take sand or whatever. And then there are those days where the water is crystal clear and it takes your breath away, and because there are very very few tall buildings in the way, it is much easier to see.
Special indeed.

So, I'm heading that way tomorrow...(can't wait!!!). I love these beaches no matter what the conditions are. There is beauty in all the different water qualities of the gulf in this area. That being said....what does the water look like today???

June grass is here- some places heavier than others, with the heavy spots always moving around. It is impossible to predict what parts of SoWal have "more" June grass than others. Nature didn't seem to be keeping people out of the water in Seagrove today.

You are welcome. It is beautiful today, and the water temp is perfect. Bring your sunscreen!
