Coming down later this week and weekend for some surf fishing and wanted to know if that darn June grass has shown up yet anywhere nearby? Was in Topsail RV resort a few weeks ago and they had plenty. Thanks!

Im on the water lots and i can tell you the june grass is as far as the second bar. Like bobby said, go deep. Or, hit the bays and go deep. Water's warm already and the fish are deep unless you fish the mornings... Good luck....

This is how I respond when people ask me how can I swim in that nasty stuff? (meaning June grass):

People spend hundreds of dollars in fancy spas having seaweed rubbed all over them. You are getting a very exclusive spa-treatment for free. It's got lots of good minerals and enzymes for your skin. Breathe deep, you'll get used to the smell. And don't open your mouth under water. ;-)

Disclaimer: I have no idea if there is anything beneficial in June grass, let alone whether it contains enzymes, but it sounds good...

I always say the very same thing and jump right in. Jellies are another story.

Well thats a bummer. I've got a Kayak but like to fish for sharkie-poos in the early evening. The sheer amount of weed that can magically latch on to my line is amazing! Someone needs to study this process as I'm certain it will solve many energy problems across the globe. When does this stuff go away...seems everytime I come down its there no matter which month of summer???

They do call it June grass. There are sharks in the bay. Go catch them.

It's fun to swim with the kids and call it sea snot. Like WaterCourseWay says, it's good for the skin. It doesn't hurt and it washes off in the shower.

June grass all summer long?

So despite the name, is June grass here all summer? This will be the third year we stay in Seaside. The first year we went the last week of May & there was not any June grass & it was great! Last year during the week of July 4th, it was really thick! We will be there July 11-18th & wondering if it should be clearing out by then?

Incidentally, we LOVE SoWal! We have gone from Destin to Shell Island visiting all the beaches & LOVE them!

A good storm and heavy surf ought to help for awhile. I know I'm missing surf fishing cuz I'm not about to spend my whole morning cutting june grass off my line. It doesn't just pull off like regular weeds.
It's kinda like stringy snot. :funn:

Sea Snot!!! Hilarious! Can't wait to say that to the girls when they come back to their beach chairs from the surf. "Hey, (insert daughter's name here) you have sea snot on your back side!"

This thread has gotten very snotty!

I've been at Blue Mtn Beach and it seems like the June grass has been improving, its more like a delicate "snot puree".

Its not gross to swim through it, the water is quite clear, but I can see how it might be annoying if you're fishing and it loads up on your hook.
