New Walton County Democratic Party receives state charter

June 17, 2009 - 9:48 AM
During the presidential campaign last fall, more than 1,500 Walton County citizens volunteered for the Obama campaign. According to Jeremy Solomon, new Democratic Party chair, every part of the county?from Paxton to Miramar Beach--was well represented.

Republicans and Independents joined old and new Democrats to unite around a few common ideals, Solomon says: that respect for law trumps narrow political agendas, that sweeping reforms are necessary to preserve this nation's way of life, and that intelligence and thoughtful discourse are necessary for good government.

A trip to the Supervisor of Elections office seems to tell a completely different story. :idontno: Cash deposits, lack of documentation, etc...

Don't really know much about the Democratic Party organization structure but I thought they would have a State CommitteeMan and State Committeewoman. No mention of those in their leadership listing. :idontno:

Can you expand on the story at the Suupervisor of Elections? Something is missing in this post.:yikes:

Another $20 that it's actually a democrat.

And because I love and respect you as a person even though we are on totally opposite ends of the political spectrum, I just deleted the rest of what I was about to say.

I wish everyone could be like this! Not all of my friends/family and I agree on every political point, move or share the same religious beliefs; however, we do love and respect one another - quite deeply, too!

I'm really glad you posted this ShallowsNole!

Thanks Lynnie - I just wish I did know who started this thread. I know who didn't...it's not anyone prominent in either local party.

It's simply time to work together.

My guess would be that WaltonDem is referring to the over 60 illegal contributions that were reported taken by the Democrat Party during the last campaign season. And no, I am not WaltonDem, I have no problem putting my name on things, I would think everyone would know that by now.

Campaign laws are very confusing and from what I have seen easily broken. I guess they are done that way on purpose. I have not looked at the Republican Party reports. I am sure that they are probably not pure either.

If it's less than $300, source isn't required, right? I'd like to see Campaign $ Reform based upon the issues, which arose in the last campaign. And, I agree in that there are probably violations from red and blue.

To clarify, there weren't scandalous illegal contributions, but some accounting problems caused by honest errors/attempts to simplify by well meaning volunteers.

The party has a new Treasurer and is being very careful to follow both the spirit and the letter of the laws & rules.

I was just talking about the Dems.

My knowledge of local Republican campaign finance is limited to Brannon's misdeeds/convictions.

This statement seems simplistic in nature.

What errors and what simplifications ? Cash contributions are limited to $50.00 - what could be more simple.

There is more to this story !

Who said you were? It is interesting that everyone, including you, automatically assumed that I was talking about you when I made the comment about the real identity of Walton Dem.
