People are lining up for State offices, but only hearing about a few for the local ones. So far:
BCC
District 2
Pridgen (R) Incumbent
District 4
Comander (R) Incumbent
Cuchens (R)
Kramer (D)
WCSD
District 3
Roberts (R) Incumbent
District 2
Open
District 5
Barnhill (R) Incumbent
Supervisor of Elections
Beasley (R) Incumbent
I have no idea who is even up for the fire district or mosquito control and all those other offices out there.
Note that this list is based on what I have been told by others, usually the incumbent, about who is running. No one has filed paperwork yet. With the exception of Kramer I have heard of no Democrats running this time.

Scary that Ro would be running AGAIN. I guess the dock building a sea wall business is not going to good.

This type of stuff is why many good people will not run for office. The man has not even formally declared and already the mudslinging starts.:nono1: Why can't we at least wait until they qualify to start getting nasty.:bang:

As I read that you're giving permission for mud slinging. After a candidate qualifies of course.

No surprise - some folks have been campaigning/reinventing themselves for months so they can run!

I am not "giving permission" as that is not my place. I am recognizing reality that mudslinging does occur in political races. I also recognize that I have on occasion participated.
What I was attempting to point out is that such activities discourage candidates from running. Regardless of the political party or race, good people are not running to keep their lives from being torn through and every statement they made in their lives used against them.
If we the people want better candidates, we need to learn a little restraint.

From what I have witnessed, it isn't "we the people" who do the mudslinging - it's the opponent's party, the special interests etc.

I believe it is because the individual stated they would not seek reelection.

So, we need candidates for School Board Districts 3 and 5. GOOD candidates.
Don't look at me. I've thrown my heart and soul in the last five elections. I'm done.

Mudslinging? Apparently you really don't know Ro. I've always thought of mudslinging as being about lies.
Kramer? that should be interesting
I see ads in the Defuniak Herald that Scott Brannon's relative is running for Freeport City Council.

Its not mudslinging if you deal in facts. Innuendo and "everybody knows" is mudslinging.
Give me facts about Mr. Cuchens, because the people I have talked with say he is a "good guy." The people I have talked to say Ms. Commander is a "nice lady." Mr. Kramer, I know by sight but have never really had a conversation with.
As to Ms. Brannon, I guess we are rationing one political office per family? If she is qualified and the voters of Freeport want her, so what who is her relative?:bang:

Considering that Commissioner Brannon's father ran for Governor, I don't know that we are limiting the number of related people. I don't know Ms Brannon, but anytime I see one family running, or attempting to run, local government, I know that we won't get a fair and balanced gov't. They may have to change the name to the "good ole boy and gal network."
If those three are the final choice for BCC, I'd like to announce my early support for incumbent, Sarah Comander. I think she is doing a good job as County Commissioner right now, and she seems to have the public in mind when she is making decisions. She has an opinion, and yet, is willing to listen to the public. That is exactly the type of person we need on the BCC.
If you want some facts on Ro Cuchens' actions while on the BCC, I'll be happy to dig up plenty of juicy stuff, real and factual, such as his misuse of County Gov't letterhead to request permits to the DEP, insinuating the requests were coming from the County, rather than himself as a seawall builder. Or, perhaps you would like to see evidence of Ro's company building private sewalls on Gov't property, aka, the beach. Or, maybe you would be interested in reading through testimony that Mr Cuchens told County staff to approve the dark sand which didn't meet the Code, to be dumped onto the beach in Blue Mtn Beach, which was later removed after the citizens raised stink about the dirt being dumped on the beach. Maybe I'll just wait for his name to actually appear on the ballot, but Mr Cuchens has shown from his past seat on the BCC that he isn't worthy of being in such position, and that he didn't have the public in mind with his actions as a Commissioner.

I must have slept through the last few years because I do not remember Mr. Brannon's father running for anything. I have to get out more.😀

This post grew since I responded the first time. If all of this is true, the people need to know. That is what I was trying to get to: "Just the facts, ma'am."

Just because they have the same last name
SJ, you state that Elizabeth Brannon is related to Scott Brannon. Could you explain exactly how? Or are you making an assumption?
I could be wrong...I'll check with Fuzz's co-worker who is related in some way to everyone in Freeport. If they are related, I'll post it.
