A friend of mine and I were fish a huge bait ball in the bay and cought alot of reds and black drum until the action peaked the intrest of a 9' bull shark and then the fun was all over and the reality of being in a 12' john boat and the 9' bull shark set in. My point is do not go tubeing in the bay right now. All in all we had about 25 sharks swimming around us feeding like crazy.

I know this was a typo, but apparently it was almost the truth too! Yikes! Any photos to share? :yikes:

Most of the time the big Bulls stay out in the gulf. Thanks for the heads up on them in the bay right now. Most of the ones I have seen in the bay have been smaller Black Tips.

I saw a couple of small stingrays in the Bay two days ago - first ever for me. I hear the Intracoastal is full of sharks.

Interesting. But the time I did catch a shark, it was in the Intracoastal. Aren't stingrays in the shark family, too?

What was the story we heard last night? A shark biting a kayak as 2 women were launching at Grayton? Supposedly happened Monday- does anyone know anything?

Our dock is right near the edge of the Intracoastal and we caught small stingrays here last month. Fascinating to see! We see many alligators and dolphins, and have been told by passing boaters of shark sightings. A little nervewracking seeing kids fall off tubes and they're just lingering in the water "forever" while the boat swings back around.

The bull shark likes rivers......We have only seen black tip n the bay and intercoastal. It use to feel safe in the bay!:shark:

They've been Dredging the Channel on the Intracoastal going on two weeks now, I wonder if that has anything to do with the activity?

They are related, but a shark is a shark and a ray is a ray...even the rays that look more like sharks...

Not sure if it includes the bay, but chumming or baiting within 500 feet of shore is illegal in Walton County according to the beach use ordinance.

Maybe I shouldn't be asking, but last night we watched Jaws with our new video projector on our 15x15 foot inflatable movie screen -- waaaay cool

So when was the last time a human swimming in the ocean was bitten swimming off of a Sowal beach?

Jamie Marie Daigle, 14, 6/25/2005. She was killed by a 6-8 foot bull shark while boogie boarding in Miramar Beach.

I think it is good to be aware and cautious when swimming in the gulf or bay but I would not get to worked up over sharks(avoid bait balls). They tend to not like people. I find it far more dangerous driving to Destin and back on a Friday night.

We were on vaca when the young girl was killed. It's been awhile and a few vacations since then, but I do think of it every time we're there in the water. It was all over the news.

I find this hard to believe. Do you really drive to Destin on Friday nights?

Growing up south of here we spent entire weeks camping out on the islands and swimming across the inlets and outlets and passes, skiing, tubing, snorkeling. My dad's good friend was a professional photographer who took aerial shots of the coast. Most of them showed many many sharks in the bay and in the Gulf. Like I said, we were out there sun up to sun down and the only thing that ever happened was a freaky encounter when a remora attached to my leg.
I'm not saying don't think about your surroundings. Just don't put any shrimp in your pockets and be safe as you can. I think I deal with a much bigger threat crossing 98 on 395 every day.
