I am wondering what is the best website to get up to date beach conditions (surf, wind, june grass?) for all along 30-A?

Maybe that's something that the Walton Outdoors blogger might consider adding?

Try www.swfd.org it is pretty comprehensive and used often.

The fire district or the TDC should release a conditions widget that we could put on all our websites/blogs about Walton County.

There is a link to SWFD - BEACH on WaltonOutdoors.com. In addition to the flag warning, SWFD also posts a detailed surf forecast and explains the beach flag system in detail. It is the most comprehensive source and is updated twice a day.

Maybe I'm just totally exhausted (actually I am totally exhausted), but where is the link that says when green slime, heavy seaweed, or biting flies will be a factor?

I truly wasn't trying to disparage your blog. It's a great service. I was just making a suggestion. Maybe I'm just "see the above comment." Sorry.

That is exactly how I check it every day, I go to enjoy your website updates and then click on the SWFD link.

Then I'm lucky enough to drive a few miles and go play on the beach, oh, I mean check on the report's accuracy.

I take a lot of photos and happily post them for those that inquire, even though I know the conditions can change rapidly.

If I could figure out a way to get paid for it, I'd provide a detailed inspection report and photos of every South Walton beach every day!

I haven't been to this website in a while. but in the past I have been able to access beach infomation through the USNational Weather service website. Through that site I was able to access information from the Pensacola marina bouy system. It mainly included information about tides, temp, currents but occassionally included infomation a bout water clarity and other variables, ie june grass. There is a reason they call it junegrass by the way. Good luck...I will be down there in Nov and could post on conditions then.

Well, I'd never thought about the difference in surf conditions and beach conditions.

Clearly they aren't the same, although it's never occurred to me. WO was probably just thinking about surf...

Ok, and when I'm being nice and posting photos of the "current" beach conditions, may I have permission to attach your time table so that I'm not held liable in any way for the 3 feet of junegrass that comes in after I post?

I've witnessed it and I'm like oh crap, nobody will believe my posts now!

Go for it.

I hate when you call someone from the beach insisting they come down to see how beautiful it is and as they crest the dune a giant wad has positioned itself directly off shore. :bang:

I misstated above, the readings are from the Destin Marina and not Pensacola . The name of the part of the Nat'l Weather Sevice providing this infomation is NOAA, Nat'l oceongraphic(sp?) and Atmospheric Agency. Just another example of goverment agencies providing useful infor.

Thanks.... I'm not sure if there is a site where you can get real time info on June grass/biting flies. It all depends on which way the wind is blowing. And I not saying that sarcastically! The north wind blows out the June grass and blows in the dog flies generally in late August. I do not believe there is any agency that monitors. But if you find one, I would be happy to share with Walton Outdoors readers!
The yellow flies should be fading off pretty soon.... here is a story about those critters:
