Okay I am starting to hear a lot of different stories on this one. Yes there was some beach erosion, no there was no dry sand beach erosion, yes we lost 8 turtle nests, no erosion because it will cause people not to come to the beach if the truth were know.
So does anyone know what the truth is about beach erosion after Claudette?

On the beach in front of our neighborhood in Seagrove, there was no erosion of the dunes. There might have been a little erosion on the flat part of the beach, but maybe it just looked that way because the sand was wet. I didn't notice any difference in the distance between the high tide water and the dunes as compared to my visit the previous week, so that's a good sign. Of course, I didn't have a tape measure that long.

I've noticed some areas having their 'topsoil' removed, basically. The soft, thick sand. I noticed this in front of One Seagrove Place, whereas on other sections of beach, say in the Blue Mountain area, it was like that about half way up, but then the tick sand remained going toward the dunes.
I noticed this last year after returning from working for a stint out of state. I noticed then how different areas along 30A were affected differently. I don't know why, but this just surprised me. But it will come back, like it eventually did in Seagrove last year. The beach is still very nice and worth any visit.
Persoannly, it wouldn't affect my decision on wanting to go to a particular beach. It's Mother Nature and it is beautiful in its own way. It is interesting.

What has me confused is news reports and Sheriff's reports of beach erosion and TDC reports of no beach erosion. Last time I checked there was only one set of beaches in Walton County.

West end of 30-A had sand moved around. A couple areas lost a little depth of beach width, then you go a coupl dhundred yards to the West and the beach is a bit deeper at the toe of the dune. Over near Fort Panic, there is a walkover that has been short of the beach sand by nearly two feet that is now maybe six inches from the beach. Just East of there, there is a large cut into the bank a couple feet tall and shear from the storm.

We came back to the beach on Friday (I was also there during Claudette -- scary!). Our area in Seagrove has definitely gained sand.

Thanks for reminding me. I heard they made some phone calls to the SO and all those lines are recorded. I gotta remember to request those.

Just trying to give those idle hands something to do.
