We are paying Chelco for all that gas they bought last summer when the prices were so high. Or so that's what they say.

"cap n trade" will only make it worse too....

YES, I have noticed! The wholesale power cost adjustment!
I had to make 2 payments.

It has been outrageous this year. I have a $200.00 power bill for an 800 square foot brand new townhome.

For me, it actually seems slightly better now than last year, when all of a sudden my power bill was $75 more compared to August 2007.

perhaps we should all save on elect by turning lights off when not being used and turning a/c off when noones home. ive done all and more and my bills are much less. and the more people move here the more chelco will have to invest and the more we'll have to pay.

If it makes anyone feel better about it, the same thing has happened in Houston. Right after hurricane Ike there was a month they estimated and ever since prices have been between 40% - 50% higher.

To their credit, Chelco sent out letters last winter telling us that our bills were going to go way, way up. It explained how they were phasing in the increases, and gave estimates of what you could expect.
Our increases have actually been pretty much in line with their estimates - now, we did have a wicked hot end of June./beginning of July, so our most recent bill was actually lower.

If you're on a heat pump, the system works noticably more efficiently (and cheaply) if you set it to a constant termperature rather than yo-yoing it up and down all day long.

We do the same, but a/c nice and low when I'm sleeping is one of my "tier one" luxuries (meaning, it is the last to be cut back on).
We bump it high when we get up and back down at bedtime.

Member owned coopertive, seems we as members/ owners might have something to say about price. HMMMMM, or do we?

Well, they send out notices about every member meeting, and whenever I've dealt with them they've been very good. So, give them a call, and maybe you can help them source less expensive energy sources.

I am not complaining about the cost, I am suggesting that those who are should consider seeing what they can suggest or run for Board Of Directors.
For the individual who has 800 sq ft and pay $200 a month, I would consider a energy audit, I have a 2000 sq ft home and pay slighly more and my home is 12 years old.

Hail Yes!!!!! Even with our 'mild summer,' to boot!
My bill was even May and June. July went up 35% and I don't think we have temps over 92-93 'in town' for that period. August certainly hasn't been dog days, so I expect a drop in my bill.
But, yes, I noticed and I liked it none.

My bill last month was $290.00 and the new one just received is $237.00 for a one level- open floorplan, less than 1266 sq ft house. I might as well turn my oven into a mod bookshelf now as she'll never be used again.

I don't use the heat during the winter and bake up a storm! ;-)

I was wondering how our house stacked up against others in energy efficiency. After reading the comments on this thread, I can say that I feel better every day about the extra money I invested in foam insulation and a solar water heater. Our house is 1,500 sq. ft. two story and my last electric bill was $125 for a family of 3. This next bill will be higher, but then it'll drop back down to $75-80 for the Fall.

The one thing you'll never hear me complain about is "paying for electricity".
I've been without it from time to time (power surges, hurricanes, and storms), it sucks!
I will happily pay my bill each month to have the comfort no matter how much it is!
Mine also went up this month and the payment has been mailed! ;-)

Mine took a jump last month too. Roughly $100 more than this time last year.
It's not quite as high this month, but still more than I'd like.
Of course, I have to have my a/c. That's not negotiable.

Chelco is more expensive than Georgia Power right now, but GA Power just had a major increase. I'd love to see Y'all's power bills in Atlanta as opposed to SRB as I presume Atlanta Bo is talking about Atlanta? Who knows, I could be wrong~~~~~~~~~maybe Atlanta Bo lives in SRB.
Does Chelco get its power from Southern Co.? That might explain the increase down there.

Turning of ac is not good to do
turn it up yeah. It will take a lot to cool it back down. Alolso so many things now take ele even if you are not useing them chargers, tv's steros, dvd players computers and more. Unplug them. Gulf power had 2 rate hikes one oct 1 o8 and another jan 09 just a few months later. I dont get where they allow these kinds of rate hikes so clothes. Those hikes were a totally of 30. No pay rasises and everything is going up and food is due to go up 38% in the next few months. Plus blue cross has a rate hike starting Oct 1 of 22% for those that have that. And again no pay increases for many.

they may say they support renewables but do they give use any incentive? no they make it more difficult to put in renewables. Im sure they have some special requirements for protection equiptment to protect the grid that will make it almost impossible to upgrade to wind power. They dont want it and dont do anything to promote it. What a non freindly member owned co-op

green power choice. i'm confused as to how it works. You can buy blocks of kwh in addition to your regular bill?
