break in's on 30-a

This is my first time to post. I am a beachfront property owner. My parents built a modest house on 30-a in the mid 1970's. I rent the house to pay the taxes and upkeep. After Dennis we moved our furniture out. This weekend we moved it back in and enjoyed our first night there since last May. We left Sunday. Sometime on Sunday, teenage vandals broke in, smashed windows and tore up the inside of our house.
We are near Ed Walline Park. I wondered if any of you know about the teenage vandalism in the area?

Did someone see the intruders? You said "teenage" vandals.

There were some teens recently caught that were responsible for a rash of vandalism to some businesses and churches all over the area.

Yes, but they were captured before yesterday, if you are referring to Sunday as in yesterday.

I have not heard of other vandelism.

I was wondering myself how the poster came to that conclusion.

We received a call last week regarding break ins at the storage units behind Yanni's..there was no mention of age. Hope this helps. Will post more when I know more.

Oh yeah, I think it was OnMackBayou who posted maybe a week or two ago that his storage unit off of South Chuch St (I think) was broken into and things taken. I am not so sure that was simply vandalism, but rather, theft.

I think teenagers was suggested because adults don't usually break in and just wreck the place. My guess is that adults are typically thieves, rather than vandals, at least in this area. Gotta have that meth, ya know.

The Deputy told me that it was probably teenagers - maybe on bicycles -
There was a report of a truck down at Ed Walline with bikes in the back and they saw bicycle tracks in our driveway.

How bad is the crime in SoWal these days?

There is relatively little. Most crime here is petty stuff compared to the cities. I hate to be negative but it is only a matter of time before we will probably see a lot of burglaries with all the vacant homes here. Security will have to be stepped up at some point.

I spotted two kids in black Gothic garb on 30-A last weekend. Looked really out of place. Of course, they were probably banished from Watercolor by their junior league alumna mom and roaming around not hurting anything. :floor:

Hate to say it but within the first couple weeks after Katrina, we had 2 cars stolen. My car alarm went off the night before one of them. 😱 We had discussion about gates at our last meeting but it was shot down. I would hate to see it and we've had no problems since then but as we grow, I'm sure it's inevitable. :(

oh yeah, blame it on the Goth kids - nutters maybe, but theives most probably not - I figure that if I were in high school today I'd most probably be Goth - get over it and keep looking - and they probably hit way more than one house. being banished by junior league alumna mom's sucks - only thing that was getting hurt was the kids!

That was kinda my point. When stuff like this happens, WASPS such as ourselves tend to look for somebody who doesn't quite fit the 30A mold to blame.

whoever it is, it's bound to happen more as our region develops. get hardwired alarm installed in any new houses you're building and radio based systems in existing construction. better insurance rates and piece of mind.

Do you install radio systems or just the wiring?

intruders caught

In case anyone is interested about the break in on 30-a. The conclusion to this event ended in the capture of two males (ages 24 & 30). The sheriff's dept. is really on the ball I must say. They broke into one other house on the beach, tried to get in one but couldn't and also broke into a trailer on 393 and pretty much trashed it like they did mine. This was in one night.
So that is that.

First time poster, be kind! We have a place just south of 30-A
(Blue Mtn. Beach) that was broken into post-Ivan. TV and stereo
equipment stolen. Walton Co. caught and prosecute two adults,
each of whom received probation. Sadly, these people were familiar
with the area because they were house-cleaners.

Hubby and I are taking our property off a rental program within
the next month or two and would be interested in any kind of
"Spouses watching Houses" type references.

Thanks for any replies, hope this helps. I read this board a lot
and feel like I know everybody a little bit already.

PS A window was blown out in our second floor by the storm,
that's how the burglars entered and they hit a couple of other
properties, too. We were impressed by the work the police did.

:welcome: Duchess! Sorry about your break-in. I don't have their card anymore, but the Pharmacist at Santa Rosa Pharmacy's wife has a company like that. I'm sure someone will be able to help you!!!
