Vetenarian type question: Since we moved here my Collie China has developed some rather large bumps on here skin (-the head and ear area, mostly). Could these be horse flies??--I have seen them in the back yard lately and was trying to put 2 and 2 together. I know yellow flies are biters of people and can cause lesions, but I am pretty sure there are horseflies---

Warbles?
They could be warbles - the larvae of flies that lay eggs on weak or very young animals. It develops as a lump on the skin with a hole in the middle where the larva pops out for air. If so, these should be surgically removed by a vet as soon as possible. You should have China checked out by a vet anyway. Hope this helps.

On the rare occasion when my dogs are sucked by ticks, the area of the "bite" is usually left with a small pea-sized bump for a few days. There are some good vets in the area, who may be able to give you a diagnosis.
