This may be legal, but is it right? this little coon has been in a trap under the bridge at the blue lupine inn at the end of redfish circle, for at least two days! It is not the first coon to be abused before death at this location. Should living creatures be treated in this manner?

I thought that there was a set time period for long an animal could be in a "humane" trap before it was considered abuse - and it was a lot shorter than 2+ days.

Definitely inhumane. I'd call animal control or Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge and see what they say about it.

it looks like a opossum to me. Did animal control put it there?

No! Let it go Jack.

The trap is from the Inn. It is a coon that was under the bridge in the dark and cold. It had dug and clawed mud all around the trap attempting to free inself. The people live in condo's. If they could get away with it, you would see traps on the beach with people from the brick yard in them! This is a pond that crosses in front of their precious building, so I guess the racoon was trespassing! And yes, calls were made, and always the same yadda yadda response.

where is it again?...i'll relocate it.

It would be a real shame if the animal wiggled around and somehow managed to get out ................. and then a large tree branch fell on it (repeatedly) so it no longer functioned. ;-)

I've heard raccoons have poor eyesight, perhaps he didn't see the no trespassing signs. FREE ROCKY!!!!

I've always had a problem with those traps. They say they're humane, but people sometimes forget about them. I once saw one with a dead possum that had died a terrible death in the hot sun. That could have been somebody's cat or dog.

Well I fear rocky must have paid with his life for trespassing too close to the inn at blue mountain! The trap is now emty, but reset. So one could assume that the evil property manager has terminated rocky, after first starving and tormenting him! I guess their condo's are now safe!

I'm not too crazy about raccoons. They're nasty and some carry a worm that eats holes in your brain. I just think if you set a trap like that, put it in the shade, put plenty of water in the cage, and try to put it somewhere you pass by daily. Don't forget about it!

that worm that eats a hole in your brain was in the Star Trek movie, wasn't it? seems like they could catch a coon a day and it would be quite some time til they got em all. by then coon central would send in replacements, all armed with that Star Trek worm. Oh the humanity...

Besides torturing an animal by leaving it in the trap (bad karma, too) they are wasting their time. I had one once that was coming in the cat door at night. Borrowed a friend's trap and soappedaler and I took it way far away into the forest and released it. Not far enough, it was back in a few days. I stopped letting the cats out at night, too dangerous for them anyway.
Since then have had many more raiding the trash. Bought a racoon-proof trash can from Frank's in Grayton. Best to coexist. There's lots more where that one came from.

Deadly dung
Children who play in the dirt where a raccoon has defecated are at risk. I have no sympathy for raccoons when they are crawling around above the ceiling in my workspace. Watching the urine drip from the ceiling to the floor is not a pretty sight. They are nasty SOBs. Nonetheless I believe they should be treated humanely even if that means ending their lives.

Raccoon trapping
Here is what FWC has to say:
"It is lawful for landowners to humanely destroy or live-trap nuisance raccoons without a permit from the FWC, but if the raccoon is trapped, it must either be released on the same piece of property where it was captured, or it must be humanely destroyed. It is unlawful to relocate nuisance-wildlife in Florida."
