Mac Users Unite!
Hello, a few of us have been talking and we thought it might be fun to start an informal mac users group. If there is enough interest, we could make it official with Apple. Then we would be eligible for discounts and technical resources. But, the main reason would be to share ideas and have some fun with fellow mac users in our community.
Dan of Amavida Coffee provided the spark of the idea for this group and has been so gracious to volunteer to host the events at the Rosemary Beach coffee shop. We are thinking we would make the gatherings on the third Thursday of the month and be from 5 pm to 6:30 pm or so. The first 30 to 45 minutes would be devoted to the topic of the evening and the remaining time would be for questions and answers on all things Apple and general discussions. We will have a projector to use for training and presentations. All attendees would be encouraged to bring their Apple products of choice ? be it MacBook, iMac, or iPhone.
Events will be lead by David Goetzka, Bryan Beasley, and/or Kevin Boyle.
We want to encourage all levels of mac users to attend ? from beginners to advanced users. Bring your questions and your favorite tips and tricks to share with the group.
Here?s a tentative schedule:
January 28: New to the Mac? Tips and tricks for Finder, Spotlight, Safari, Mail, iChat, iCal, Address Book, System Preferences, Services, Parental Controls and maybe a few others.
February 18: iTunes, iPods and iPhones and your Mac as your media center using Apple?s software vs third party alternatives.
March 18: iLife ? iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD (vs Roxio?s Popcorn and Toast), GarageBand
April 15: The Business Mac: Microsoft Office vs Apple iWork (and a look at FileMaker Pro and Bento)
May 20: The Creative Mac: A quick overview of Adobe products
June 17: High End Programs ? video editing, sound editing
If you have ideas for topics, let us know. Hope to see many of our local mac users there!

I've been a Mac since 1986. I should be able to make it. We can all be geeks.

Changed to Macs three years ago. Great for our photography business. Would love to attend the meetings when I'm in town. Great idea!

You can actually see them and try them at Best Buy. You are better off buying one straight from Apple or better yet, Mac Mall. PM me if you need help.

I recommend getting them from Apple.com. And if you're looking for a great deal, I would suggest checking out their refurbished machines at Refurbished and Clearance Products - Apple Store (U.S.). Or, if you have to have it now, yah Best Buy is about the only place around here.

CRC has stores in both Ft. Walton and Destin. The Destin store is just behind Walmart to its north. The techs are very good, and the pricing I've experienced has tended to err on the low side of expected. I've met the owner in my condo building, and he is a first rate guy with a deservedly good business. He is now able to sell Apple products, and I look forward to buying Mac gear from him. Every local Mac user should get to know these folks.
The VP of our condo board is a genuine techie, with lots of money in technology in his penthouse here and his home in Atlanta. He introduced me to CRC. They do remote troubleshooting for VP's wife, whether she's in ATL or locally, and they offer this to anyone. When AppleCare runs out on my iMac, I'll use them every time I get stumped.
Best buy and MacMall may save you a trivial amount of money on the purchase or not, but CRC is worth looking into.
