Hello all. Walton County Habitat would reallly appreciate your help. Our efforts to organize the RESTORE continue. This Saturday (January 23) and next Tuesday (January 26) we need volunteers to help us continue this project. We are also always very grateful to get donations of gently used building supplies or household goods. Please think of us when you are organizing your home.
The RESTORE is located on the West side of 331 just a few miles north of the bridge. If you need more info, please send a message.
We are also especially in need of some pro bono accounting help. If anyone in the community would like to help Habitat and is looking for a way to use their skills, this is a perfect opportunity!
Thanks you.

Do we just show up or is there a sign up for clean up? Also, might be able to offer some help with accounting, not a full time bookkeeper but I've been working in accounting for many years.
Thank you, Tom's girl. I send you a PM.
For others who are on the fence about volunteering for Habitat, this may sweeten the deal. We have just signed up for Disney's , "Give a day, get a disney day" program. Volunteer for posted jobs at Habitat on the Disney site and receive a free Disney pass. This should be set up in the next week.

I own a housewares company, supply mainly for condos and vacation homes, but i am willing to donate time and products for the habitat. I also know an accountant (my mom) who has 30+ years experience and could probably donate some time at home after her 9-5 helping with the books. might make her feel good too! love to help, please get back to me with more info....
What's happening at Walton County Habitat
Every week, volunteer supervisor Bill Rennicke writes an e-mail to update everyone on progress at Habitat projects. Here is this weeks post, including volunteer needs for the week.
This Saturday was a milestone for the Walton HFH. Only a handful of years ago we struggled to staff our build days with more than 5 or 6 volunteers. This Saturday we had very successful work days at two locations. Some volunteers even started working at #19 and finished helping on Saturday at the ReStore. Thanks to all of you who participated. The volunteers were a great mix of our core team, snow birds, new recruits and even customers at the ReStore who helped.
I also want to thank all of you who volunteered to work on the Administrative Improvement Committee and those who volunteered to help feed the University of Pittsburgh students who are coming on March 7th for work starting on the 8th. HFH President Matt Parker and the Board are committed to improving the efficiency of the HFH organization and maximizing the ability to qualify for as many grants and funding as possible. Key to that need is improving the efficiency of the administrative practices. We have a great team of people lined up to work with Teresa Imdieke.
Restore Workday - Tuesday January 26 at 8:30AM. While great progress has been made there are still areas of the inventory display that need work and repair. We also want to make a portable sign that Shawne can use as roadside advertisement. In another month or so most of the major items will be addressed and we are hoping that in addition to organized workdays volunteers going forward volunteers will come every week at their own pace and time to help keep the inventory organized.
#19 Workday - Saturday January 30 at 8:00AM. We hare 80% sure that we will hang sheetrock. Please watch your emails on Friday for any schedule adjustment. The HVAC has started. When that is finished we need to get the inspection done. Then Insul - 8 has been very generous to offer to insulate the house #19. This will be the 10th house where Insul - 8 has provided the insulation. If those three events are successful we are good to go.
Thanks to Rod Ogilvie - Aquavision Pools (aquavision@cox.net) for Spreading 50+ yards of stone at #19. Rod donated a full day of his time and his skid loader to spread the stone. There is no way volunteers could have spread the stone by hand. Rod's time is even more appreciated since I know he company is flat out building pools and water features. Thank you Rod !!!
Thanks to Vulcan Materials and Keeler Trucking for hauling providing the stone and transporting it to #19. Vulcan has provided driveway stone for the last 7 HFH houses.
Thank you all again and lets keep our fingers crossed that all falls into place at #19.

BIG NEED!!! February 13th.
HFH is going to do the sheetrock finishing on houses #19 and #20. We have lots of interest, good volunteers but limited or no experience and equipment. If you are a sheetrock finisher or have experience or have any suggestion on professionals we can ask to help - HFH needs you help. We have not done the finishing work in the past and need someone to lead the taping and installation of edge molding
We need someone with a "banjo" and a "bazooka" and the know how to use it. Volunteers can take care of the screws and sanding but we need some skilled leadership and instruction.
Please post or pm if you can help. Thank you.

My husband and I are more than willing to help. He has experience working with Habitat for Humanity and I take instruction well, so put us to work wherever you need us! I'll get in touch with you, okay?
Habitat Updates and volunteer needs
Today at #19 we finished the sheetrocking and with the help of Mark and Liz we began mudding the two bedrooms. This is a very significant event since HFH has not done its own sheetrock finishing in the past 7 years. Thanks to Mark and Liz and Kathy Gipson for their patience in teaching us how to finish the sheet rock.
Our goal is to have the sheetrock finishing completed by Saturday the 13th or the 16th at the latest so we can paint the interior.
Workdays:
Tuesday, February 9, 8AM at #19. We need to complete the initial stage of mudding the sheetrock. We need 5 to 6 volunteers and hopefully some that have experience. I will pick up in Sandestin at 6:45 and in the parking lot behind the County offices on 331 South (near the recycling dumpster in the back) at 7AM. Please email if you want a ride.
Thursday, February 11. (Meeting place to be determined). The ReStore is very fortunate to be the recipient of several truckloads of material from St. Joe. This is thousands of dollars of brand new material for sale at the ReStore. We need to take 4 to 6 people to Port St. Joe to help us load the three trucks we are taking. There is nothing that is to heavy but we need a lot of hands. If you are interested please email me and I can fill you in as plans are formalized.
Saturday, February 13, 8AM at #19. We need to finish the sheetrock work and complete the porch molding. Also need a crew to get the storage container ready for moving to #20 and we will move some of the construction material. Need 15 or 20 volunteers.

Habitat looking for volunteers Tuesday and Friday
HFH has two urgent needs for help this week. If you have the time on Tuesday and Friday this is a week to consider helping.
We had a great crew on Saturday that fully completed the second coat of mudding on #19. Having volunteers take on the responsibility of the finishing will save HFH about $2000 in a difficult year.
Tuesday, 8 AM February 16, at #19. Need 5 to 8 volunteers to put on the final coat of mud. All skills are welcome from people who can do nail holes to full seams. Please email me if you think you can go. Really need the help. (Directions attached). If we get the third coat done we can turn the house over to the crew that will be spaying the orange peel finish. I can give up to 4 people a ride so please let me know if you need a lift.
Friday, 8AM February 19th. St. Joe has made a major donation of new building material. We will leave 8AM from the parking lot behind the County Buildings on 331. We need 4 volunteers who can do some lifting. If we get 4 volunteers we will have seven to lift the remaining 3 big items and about 40 single exterior doors. This is a very important activity.
Saturday, 8AM February 20 at #19. We will either be finishing the last of the sheet rocking if we did not complete it on the 16th or hanging doors, shutters and molding. More to come.
Thank yous for the week!!!!
Mike at Allied Trades is providing sheetrock finishing and orange peels that we can not provide with volunteers. Big thanks for his patience and willingness to work side by side with volunteers.

Is it something students ( age 9-11) could handle? Sounds like a great opportunity for kids to get involved with Habitat. If so, I might have your crew.
