dogs running loose

i just heard about another dog attack incident in the seagrove/seacrest area. the dog that was attacked had to have surgery. having gone through it myself (my dog, which was leashed, was attacked by two jack russells a couple of years ago), i am begging dog owners to keep their pets confined on their property or leashes. i cannot understand for the life of me why people think it's okay to allow their dogs off leash, particularly in a neighborhood or anywhere where there are other people/dogs. i do not want to hear "my dog wouldn't hurt anyone". we can't even predict what people might do so how do we know what our dog will do? sowallers, please be considerate of others and follow the law...walton county has a leash law. obey it, please, for the good of your dog and others. much appreciated.

Thank you! Since we moved here, we're the only people on the street that has a fenced yard for our dog. The long-timers here seem to feel that since their dogs have always run loose, they get a free pass. There's also a lot of "my dog is small, yours is big, therefore more dangerous" mentality. My little one is such a dog person, she loves them all, but i'm always far more worried about her approaching and petting a small dog. She's used to bear hugging our Rotty which doesn't go over well with an ankle-biter.

It is really a shame, but the best thing you can do for the life of the dog is to complain to the county and let them deal with the owners. In the long run the life saved will probably be that of the dog. Just an inconvenience for the stupid owner.

My niece loves big dogs and has no problem being around them. She still gets skiddish around small dogs.

I am definitely more worried by "rat dogs" than "big dogs" - but I do notice that big dogs are typically the ones crapping on the beach and jumping on strangers.

If they actually enforced the leash laws here and ticketed offenders, the local government would be rolling in funds! I absolutely hate it when strange, unleashed dogs approach my daughter when we are outside and just trying to enjoy our paradise unmolested.
