I just drove past it around 6:40, headed east on 98. Horrible. From what I could see, there were two vehicles involved, looked like a mid-sized silver SUV and black sedan. The sedan was totaled and I think there had been quite a fire, which was out by then, but there several firetrucks and police cars.

A very sad start to the holiday; say a prayer for the folks involved and their families, and all of the rescue workers too. And please, please be careful out there.

Yes, being one of the survivors in the crash, it was very terrible. My Highlander is totalled, but my husband and I managed to escape with just some minor bruises. We were discharged from the hospital about an hour ago and we're resting up and recovering. We do not know much about the other driver. Apparently, it was spoken that she had fractured both of her femurs and was carried to Panama City. However, we're glad to be home and we're glad that everyone made it out of there alive.

Oh, SN! I feel so badly for you and ShallowsFuzz. What a terrible thing for you two and the other driver to experience on Christmas Eve. Thank God you're all alive!

Good morning...actually, my dear ShallowsSquirt posted that for me last night, bless his heart. I asked him to, lest anyone recognize the silver SUV with the FSU tag and SoWal sticker. I didn't know he was posting in third person, though.

But yes, it was ShallowsFuzz and me...and a driver coming west bound in the eastbound lane. Almost home, from our shift of taking care of Fuzz's grandmother.

I am bruised and sore, but alive and on pain meds, as is ShallowsFuzz. And this Christmas morning, I am very grateful. I do hope the other driver will be ok.

I am sure glad you are both not seriously hurt. You both do such great service for Walton County. We really need for you to keep doing so.

I'm really glad to hear you're all ok. That driver went past us a few seconds before hitting you, narrowly missing a motorcyle who was able to swerve and avoid. This would have been about halfway between 283 and 331. I did not see her hit you in my rearview. It was getting dark and the car was out of sight almost immediately.

We came back through a couple of hours later and saw the aftermath. It couldn't have been more than a couple hundred yards (if that even) from where she passed us.

Any idea why she was in the wrong lane? Any Christmas 'spirits' or just bad driver? Glad you're okay. Rest up

OMG I am so glad you are all OK! It must have been so scary, I can't imagine...

Last night a few hours after I saw the aftermath of the accident, I was headed north on 395, waiting to turn left to head west on 98. The car in front of me also turned left, and they almost turned into the wrong lane - the northern eastbound lane; they had apparently not seen the median and the fact that it was a divided highway. Luckily they noticed at the last minute and swerved back around the median to get into the correct lane.

I'm wondering if that is what happened to the driver of the other car in your accident except she kept going, it can be confusing when it is so dark and you aren't familiar with the area. I'm hoping it was something like that...

Merry Christmas to you though, thank goodness y'all are home safe and sound!
