Probably from controlled burn in the forest north of seagrove.

I don't think so Kurt. We smelled it at 7 am taking the dog out in the Dune Allen area. It seemed like the smell was stronger were the fog was thicker.

Ok. The burn north of Seagrove was yesterday. Today it is going on east of Bay Drive north of 98.

I'm getting a little eau de paper mill smell at work today, and I'm a good 30 miles west of Watercolor. It's happened a few times this winter- just how the wind happens to blow, I guess.
And there's a real distinct difference between paper mill and controlled burn smells, at least according to my nose.

Yup, definitely that "Eau de Paper Mill".. Always seems worse when it is foggy, doesn't it?

Definitely the paper mill. When the wind is out of the east and the cool damp air pulls it downward it hangs around in the early morning until the air warms up. All gone now. I take it as a good sign - we don't get that smell when it is cold. Eau de spring!

My first thought was last night's pickled eggs and beer......

I have no idea. I only know that it smells exactly like the paper mill smell I always smell when driving in Western NC- wood pulp odor.

There is one in Panama City. Hard top believe you could smell it all the way over here.

Yep, on the far side of Panama City and you can smell it if conditions are right. With gentle winds out of the east and heavy fog, the smell will stay close to the earth and travel for miles. Fortunately, those days are few. Hey, but you can drive over to the mill and get a free car wash in exchange for the problems it poses to the community. (seriously)

One other thing is that the lift stations, like the one near 283/30A, smell much like a paper mill. If the wind was blowing slightly out of the west, you may have been smelling that lift station. All of them will be a little more stinky on foggy days.

They are part of the sewage system and get smelly - that frequent stink as you head up/down the hill at 395 is a good example.

lift stations smell like a bad case of diarreah (bio-natural); pulp mills smell like the inside of a Port-o-let (chemi-natural)....it's like comparing apples to aardvarks in the realm of stink.
