My wife and I are SoWal residents. We are looking to take a quick one night getaway. Looking for somewhere romantic/fun within about 2.5 hours of SoWal. Any ideas?

There are some nice areas on the coast and east of PC. Someone may be more familiar than I.

Appalachicola is pretty neat for a quick getaway.

There was a thread on this some time ago... if you can get the search function to work for you 😀

Apalachicola is the spot I would go to. There is a really nice hotel on the river, I beleive it is called the Rainbow Inn and there is also a famous B&B in town. Lots of good restaurants, the best seafood in the world and great shopping. It is in Gulf County (I think).

Places to Stay | Apalachicola Bay Chamber of Commerce

Also look into Cape San Blas and Indian Pass. Apalachicola is about 2.5 hours from Sowal and Cape and Indian Pass are 2 hours away. I have spent many years vacationing in this area and LOVE it!!

RE: Appalachicola.
Various folks on here have recommended the Gibson Inn for lodging.

The GRILL (downtown) is really good for lunch.

There are also a couple of good museums there if you're into some local history.

I agree Andy!

I love going to Fairhope.......sightseeing....... going to the pier, checking out the galleries and the quaint little restaurants.
The town is immaculate with decorative floral arrangments lining the streets. It's like turning back time and being in "Mayberry".

I love Appalachicola too and Fairhope is also a lovely place. We stayed right outside of Fairhope in a (Mariott) Resort (I believe), right on the Bay. Very romantic and just a great area.

Pointe Clear, is the Mariott and it was a hospital during the war between the states, so beautiful.

I recommend just getting a swanky rental in Seaside or perhaps one of the cabins in Grayton Beach State Park. In my experience, most vacations pale before the beauty we live in. 🙂

DtI that is also a very good idea!

For my 45th birthday (MANY years ago;-)) we overnighted at Watercolor Inn including the whole spa and Fish Out of Water schlemiel.

It was an enchanting '5-miles-down-the-road' getaway!

Yes that is it! And I did not know the history, thanks!
