These seem pretty basic - thought the question of why someone with a "part-time" job needs a secretary and an assistant was quite valid.
Also seems ridiculous to have 2 lawyers on retainer for $180K a year when a full time salaried lawyer costs about half that.
Focusing on maintenance instead of new paving projects during lean budget times also seems logical.
Not sure about eliminating code enforcement, but I don't know what they actually do - lately it seems like everything is either not their jurisdiction or happening when they don't work.
I would have added eliminating paying commissioners to drive to work and other perks to the list too.

Looks like this report is a validation of Mr. Hudson, Ms. McQuiston and Co at the WCTA. Many of these suggestions have been on their list for years. Lets see if the senior professionals get any closer to seeing these things implemented.
We keep re-electing these people and then wonder why the results never change.
Maybe they should tackle the constitutional officers next. Bet that report would open some eyes.

You keep complaining we keep electing these people, step up and throw your name in the hat or find someone that will run on your platform at least.

You do not have to be elected to make change ! Sometimes being involved is just as effective if not more effective.
What are you running for Bob ? Please run !

Maybe one day, right now I support candidates who I believe will represent my interest with my money and my labor.

As do I. Right now I have far too much time invested in making a living to be able to run for office. On second thought, maybe I could kill two birds with one stone.......
Just kidding!

Was really hoping to see your name on a ballot next year.

Stranger things have happened. But everyone says tea party people can't be elected. Maybe I will hit the powerball tomorrow and be able to finance a campaign. Getting a real conservative elected would be a novel experience for Walton County.

It will cost you between $150000 to $200000 to get elected

And that is the real shame. Even if a good person runs by the time they have sold their soul to raise that kind of money they are no longer the person they were. The special interests win either way.

Campaign finance records from the 2010 Commission race show that figure to be highly inflated.

Has the county considered a 4 day work week? Is there a constitutional issue with closing on Fridays? Many counties and municipalities across the country have implemented this and it's saving money. Not only for the county/municipalities, but for the employees who drive one day a week less.
I thought that was already in place for some offices.

Most departments split employees work days to cover all 5 days even though each works 4 ten hr days.
It is different for the other constitutional offices.

I can see where it is saving the employee money, but have not found anywhere where any significant savings are being shown in government. I believe the problem is that they are not closing completely on that Friday. So half are off on Monday and half are off on Friday. Now logic tells me that if you can let 50% of your staff off, 40% of the week, and still get the job done..........you have too many people employed. And I believe that was a major point of the ISP report. Too many employees, not enough business.

If people only voted on platforms.

My point was that if you close offices for a day you save money. Utilities mainly. Obviously this wouldn't work for some constitutional offices and the courts. I'm curious if employees turn off their computers at night when they go home, hundreds of computers add up.

So folks who vote straight party line, or the Tea Party folks or Libertarians are not voting for a platform. I think think the folks that vote independent maybe don't vote for a platform.
