Exsqueeze me, but I am seeing Emerald Coast commercials on Atlanta TV stations. South Walton is excluded.

What up with that?

Must be Destin/FWB's new campaign and claim of ownership of the term.

Yeah, but you know what? I've seen that commercial dozens of times. It only says "Emerald Coast" during the ad with nondescript beach scenes showing white sand and clear green water. In the one that I have seen (the site above is blocked where I am, now), the only time locations are mentioned is in a small crawler or disclaimer at the bottom of the screen almost as an afterthought.
My brain never registered anything other than Sowal. I think the way it plays out will make people recall past experiences with the area that they visited but won't single out a specific beach. Unless you're savvy enough to know what is and is not allowed at the beach not even the wave runner will be an "ah ha" moment. Oddly, that's the first thing that caught my eye and made me go "hmmmmm?"

To add to the confusion it doesn't look like they own the EmeraldCoast.com domain. If you go there, it covers everything and has a pretty significant Sowal slant.

Besides...the more people that go there will keep our are more quaint and not as touristy!

Love the Emerald Coast description of our area, and it shall always include SoWal!

This is a bad photo of an ad in the August Southern Living. It says right in the second line that the Emerald Coast is Destin, Fort Walton Beach, and Okaloosa Island.
