You're right too! HUGE corporations do in fact provide fitness centers and day care services for their employees. I don't give a tinkers damn what HUGE corporations do with their money. I care about what the Sheriff does with taxpayers dollars!

Shame on me for thinking that an armored vehicle was TOTALLY unnecessary and a huge waste of taxpayer funds. Shame on me for thinking that sending 13 men to Houston Texas for the death of a fellow officer was OVERKILL when one (1) and a memorial wreath would have made the point!

I am curious how that would change what the folks of SoWal pay? We operate mostly on ad valorem taxes and although I am all for creating jobs and guess I am not sure how that is going to change what those in the south end pay. Full disclosure I own property in the south end but I pay more in the north end.

My comments to Teresa were not an attack. It really was what I expected her to say.You are also welcome to ignore anything you don't want to read. The fact she edited her post after she initially wrote it is of no consequence but it sure does change the nature of how she said it!

I have read the TOS for this board Truman and nowhere does it state that I can't have an opinion that differs from the masses or that I have to agree with everything our Govt. does or agree with everything the Sheriff does. I realize that some people view anything negative that's said about certain officials as bashing (your term) so, if I'm guilty of bashing the Sheriff there are a whole lot of others here who bash County Govt. on a daily basis that are just as guilty. It's also not against the TOS to disagree with a moderator.

I wasn't bashing a Moderator. I absolutely knew when I posted about the Sheriff that Teresa would weigh in with her praises of just about anything he does and wasn't surprised by her response EXCEPT that she edited it after she made her initial comments (added something different than what she said originally) that completely changed the nature of how I interpreted it and how I responded.

I am not ashamed of having opinions that some don't agree with. That is what makes discussions on forums like these interesting and if we all agreed that life was a bowl of cherries it wouldn't be nearly as interesting and folks would probably just stop posting anything at all.

Teresa, have I not always said I think the Sheriff is doing a good job? Indeed I have but I don't agree with many of the ways in which he spends taxpayer money. I wasn't being disrespectful with the comment I directed at you, I was being honest. I absolutely knew you would weigh in with praises because that is just what you always do. As I said to Truman I don't have to like the way the Sheriff spends tax dollars and I have as much right to disagree as many do to sing him praises.

It really doesn't matter. I do weigh in on those issues that matter to me. I've worked in the field and believe me, health and fitness are part of the job and part of the expense of a good department. All govt offices waste money on certain failed programs or equipment. I've seen it first hand. The issue is how does the chief or sheriff deal with mistakes, move on and manage overall, is there progress, is the mission being met? There are always mistakes and lessons learned, just as in any private business. It's all in how these are handled. Why nit pick? If there is gross mismanagement, then ok, let's do some complaining loudly. Sometimes we just have to agree to disagree. I still don't know how many deputies were sent to honor a fallen deputy in Texas. And i don't care because I believe it's important to the culture of law enforcement and to our deputies. Your opinion is well known and many agree with you. Why be so pissy with anyone who doesn't? I wasn't angry about your opinion, nor did I have a preconceived notion of your opinion would or would not be. What would be the point?

It should be a conversation with opinions shared respectfully. I totally respect Misty and her opinions on this and any other discussion. If I or others have a different opinion on the issue, it should be a good way to further the discussion and share ideas or experience or knowledge of the issue. Truman, shut up. Lol.

I was rather surprised to see the desk bike riding, not quite sure how I feel about that. 14 miles isn't very far to ride a bike, (that's not even 2 hours at a slow pace), so they aren't getting much benefit and despite what they claim, they are distracted. That was one of the issues with the treadmill desks.

Agreed. I also believe they should be doing this on their own time.

You know, Misty, it is my tax dollars, too, and just maybe we can get more than three deputies at night in SoWal if we give a bit more. It is my opinion you are worrying about the wrong expenditure of MY tax dollars.
