Who knows the three commissioners that up for re-election? Also, are they running again or just riding off not the beach sunsets? Will the election date be 1st Tuesday in November??.

Commissioners Imfeld, Meadows and Chapman are all running for reelection. They all have opponents and except for District 1 will be decided August 31 in the primaries.

Yeah,
District 5 has a retired postman with little education and completely backed by political operatives and lawyers who wan't their way with South Walton and a puppet to control. District 5 is where the vast majority of the property value and development in Walton County occurs. You have to ask yourself, if YOU had an 8 billion dollar real estate portfolio, would you want the postman making decisions or a person with a masters degree and certifications in planning and development. My bet is Mr. Anderson won't show up at debates or he will reveal himself. Watch his political contributions and that will tell the tale. Wake up people and don't let political operatives buy your representation! Bill Fletcher would be a breath of fresh air for District 1 and poor Mr. Bryan has no chance running as NPA in this county no matter how qualified he is.

I noticed that one of the candidates for superintendent of schools appears to be running as an independent. I guess that means he'll face the winner of the Republican primary in November.

I saw a comment today made by a current sitting school board member that just absolutely floored me and reminded me of just how clueless some people are that we elect to make decisions that effect not only children but the rest of the County as well.
Evidently, this school board member had no clue our "quaint little town" has a homeless population and was "quite surprised" to be approached in downtown Defuniak by a homeless person. I guess it's beneath some folks to visit cold weather shelters in our community or places like Caring and Sharing where the less fortunate go for food, clothing, household items or even shoes for their children who attend Walton County schools. I'm also sure this person has never worked with local Churches putting food boxes together for those in the Community who face food shortage issues on a daily basis and depend on those food boxes to provide for their families.
Someone should also tell this individual that homelessness does not just mean not having a roof over your head. In Walton County alone their are approximately 200 families either living in substandard housing, (no heat/no electricity/plumbing etc.) with other family members or in vehicles and still others who are one paycheck away from living in a tent or on the street.
Come down from your "Ivory Tower" occasionally...you might be surprised about what really goes on in your "quaint little town"!

I knew she was "old Defuniak money" and if I'm not mistaken, Ed Walline Park is named after someone in her family. Father or grandfather maybe? Little or no history on how that Park came by it's name and I'm not old enough to remember that far back...Danny Glidewell was born and raised here...he may know? The Campbells are also old Defuniak and have a rich and sorted history and there are a bunch of "good ole boys" in both those mixes.

Mr. Ed Walline was one of the original developers of South Walton County and built many of the beach houses so prevalent in the 1950's and 60's. He may have donated the land that the current park sits on but I am not sure about that.
