Just when you think the BCC couldn't be any more wasteful of tax dollars...

What happened to public employees passing the hat for voluntary contributions for flowers for co-workers, baby gift, wedding gift, hardship, funerals etc.

Who and how would the recipients of these tax payer funded options be chosen and how would equity be established and monitored?

Why pass a hat when you have the tax dollars of the community to spend? Cards and Flowers for all my friends and family!

Hey they didn't blink when screwing with $2Billion dollars worth of beach front property --- what's a few flowers? A drop in the bucket. For every property that's paying $20K a year in property taxes - a 20% hit would be $4K per property loss into the county. That's a lot of flowers.

Walton County Board of County Commissioners meeting 4 p.m. on May 9 at South Walton Annex. Among items on the agenda are: interlocal agreements with Topsail Hill Preserve State Park and Grayton Beach State Park providing for seasonal waiver and reimbursement of admission fees by the Walton County Tourist Development Council; public hearing to consider ordinance to allow for the expenditure of funds for expressions of sympathy or congratulations by the county under certain circumstances.

It is very difficult to draw the lines of what to do for whom. Passing the hat among people who know the recipient of a gift, flowers, etc avoids so many pitfalls that using taxpayer dollars creates.

Perhaps this proposal can be strictly limited to recipients being current and active County Employees for reasons of Funeral, Birth, Marriage, etc., as opposed to being open to simply a rubber stamp for a commissioner to kiss a constituents A$% and send gifts to them, their business, their family, their legal team, etc., etc., etc.

I'm against this 100%, but wanted to put that out there as a middle ground as I'm sure the BCC won't consider it...;)

********

Wouldn't you enjoy keeping more of your tax money to give to your favorite causes, charities, hardship cases etc. Or would you rather our wasteful government decide that for you?

It looks like the BCC has been doing this since 2002 but the current Comptroller for the County has expressed concern that this type of expenditure is not specifically authorized by the 2002 ordinance.

Why am I not surprised by this revelation?
