Where to buy stunt kites and related gear?

I'm thinking about reviving my long-dormant interest in kites - particularly stunt kites. Is there a store anywhere from FWB to PC that sells kites and related gear? Most importantly, I need someone knowledgeable about it.

There are lots of great sources on the web, but I'm looking forward to talking to someone who knows their stuff until I get up to speed.

well, I don't know about a specialty store, but I do know the little toy store in Seaside carries a wide range of kites and gear. from cheapies to rather expensive fancy ones. I think Kim, owner, could tell you about them. she's carried them for a long time.

can't even think of the name of the store, but its the one by B&A's, just east of Perspicacity (gulf side).

There is a kite store in Destin on the right going towards Ft. Walton. It is probably about a mile or so before you reach the bridge. I don't really know their inventory or there name. You could probably call the chamber of commerce and find out before you made the drive.

OK, I've googled and Wikipediaed Peter Powell but not having any luck finding retail sources.

Out of production and collectible now, right?

Do they fly better than most?

And thanks to all for the replies. I'll check out the store in Seaside, Get in the Wind in Destin, and Kitty Hawk kites over on Okaloosa Island and post some notes when I do.

yeah, out of production, and pretty collectible. they all fly pretty much the same. a Powell would probably seem a bit sluggish since newer/lighter materials are used now.

If you want stunt kites, particularly ones that offer about 30 feet or more of air, your best bet is probably Bobby at Liquid Surf in Ft. Walton -- or talk to Ed after he's done ripping it up at Seaside. Otherwise, any of the other shops will do.

Gimme a coupla weeks to get a kite and practice up and you can come down to Eastern Lake. Otherwise, maybe John R will be out before that.

We should organize a kite day. We unearthed our favorites in the big garage cleanout. They aren't stunt kites (at least I don't think they are), but they have fun shapes. We used to fly 4 or 5 at a time at Grayton, tied to coolers.
