Brody and I were just out in my back yard fishing when I spotted a gator heading straight for my bobber. He/she was about 3.5 feet long. I started reeling in as fast as I could. He hit my bobber with full force and got my lure caught on his back leg. The fight was on! I pulled him to the dock and did not have a clue what to do with him. Brody said, "Dad, you caught a gator!" The gator decide he had seen enough of us and made a mad run to the bottom of the canal. My line broke and the gator made off with my favorite lure. If you see a 3.5' gator swimming up and down the Daughette canals let me know. I would like my lure back.

Brody will probably always remember the time his Daddy wrestled an alligator!

BobbyJ did you look around after it was over to see if anyone else saw you? :floor:

It is probably best that you didn't have to remove the hook from the gator's mouth.

I saw 2 kids swimming out in the middle of Western lake yesterday at dusk. There was also 2 playing under the bridge in the water. I called the police because I could not tell if they were in trouble. We concluded they were not from these parts... Lots of gators this time of year! The cop was shocked that these kids were unattended.

... and it is alligator mating season, and the males get very territorial.

This is why I get concerned when I see kids in the lakes. This was pulled out of the lake last week. Many more where that came from!:yikes:

Welcome to Florida! (glad I taught my kids from an early age how to spot them and where NOT to swim.)
