I'll be celebrating Octavia Walton Le Vert's birthday today. She is the famous daughter of Walton County's namesake, George Walton, Jr, Acting Governor of Florida and Territorial Secretary of State. Her birthday was August 11, 1811. Florida, Alabama and Georgia lay claim to Octavia, who Washington Irving said, "One who occurs but once in an empire." In addition to her brilliant mind, she loved to entertain. Each Monday she entertained from 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. In her honor today, everyone should entertain at home and go out to be entertained. Enjoy. (by Shaping Florida)
