Watch out seems that radar guns may be coming to the paved 30A bike/walk/jog trail. Seems anything over 8 MPH is going to be put down by the MAN. So be ready for more log jams on 30A as more slow moving bikes might now have to ride the road> Guess I'll pack a Heater to protect myself. Why does Gov't feel they can fix all our ills. Another wonderful legislation from our Hardly working COMMIZARS. I'll be glad to be first to break this law. At my slowest I'm above 8MPH, fastest over 25 but forcing me into a DEATHTRAP on 30A is no solution. If the paths crowded go slow DUH. Otherwise stay out of my workout and let the police do real work. Like finding that JACKA** in a Orange pickup who thinks pistol waving is OK on 30A.Only time before someone dies and SUES the pants of this County for forcing slow moving bikes onto a 35mph road.

I believe County Interim Attorney, Mike Burke, proposed the 8mph speed limit. I wonder if he has ever ridden a bike before.
BCC mtg on this agenda is on this coming Tuesday, so speak up, or be zapped by Walton County Sheriff's Office for speeding on the multi-use path. They are forcing many people to ride on the road, only to be yelled at often, threatened, assaulted and have guns waved at them.

If i run over 8 mph do i now have to run on the road. And 30A wouldn't be a bad bike ride except for the fact that 45 to 50 mph is what many cars are traveling, yield signs are completely ignored and I'm not sure I've seen Walton's finest EVER give out a speeding ticket on this road.
Seems to me RETARDATION against COMMON SENSE has taken hold over this Country.

I do not believe that they have anything to measure you at such a low speed so the whole point of this ordinance is moot. But I did have a commissioner tell me that they were working hard to reduce regulation in Walton County and restore our freedoms.

I was envisioning a po po standing on the bike trail repeating...one Mississippi, two Mississippi!

I do not think they know. I was told that right after they passed the new landscaping requirements, requiring landscape plans to be submitted using certain plants and methods when developing property. I have my doubts that anyone currently sitting on the BCC have even a slight understanding of smaller government, fewer taxes, and more personal responsibility. But that is just my opinion.

I'm playing the lottery today, I actually agree 100%! I know anything about Celia but I bet most of the vote came from the north end.

From what I have read in the local aper, the 8MPH limit is a starting point for discussion purposes....not necessarily the proposal.

It is the proposal, seagrovegirl, but you are also correct that it is a starting point. That is what public hearings are for. Tuesday will be the second and final meeting at the BCC meeting, so let them know if you are concerned. Emails to the Commissioners will also be a good thing to have your voice heard (read). I was unable to attend the first meeting and arrived just as it was wrapping up, but I understand that no one gave any input on the proposed ordinance.
My guess is that Mr Burke researched multi-use paths online, to come up with that speed.
Tuesday, Sept 9, 4:00pm at the South Walton Courthouse annex -- Final opportunity to be heard prior to the final decision on the ordinance being approved.
