Since 1966, Larry Munson has called the UGA football games and was the 'Voice of the Dawgs.' Throughout the 1970's and early 1980's, before ESPN and satellite TV and mega-gameplan packages, I listened as he "painted the picture" of Georgia football from Athens to Knoxville and Nashville, from Auburn and Tuscaloosa, from Jacksonville and Starkville and Oxford and many other places across the South. His vivid accounts of Rex Robinson hitting the impossible field goal at Lexington, Herschel Walker (my God, a freshman,) running over Bill Bates in Knoxville, Buck Belue to Lindsay Scott in Jacksonville (and the broken chair- a metal, steel chair) and of the "Sugar falling out of the sky" at Auburn are seared into my memory and were a large part of my lifelong devotion to the Dawgs, as well as a factor in my decision to attend UGA. Larry, thanks for the memories and enjoy your retirement.

Mark Bradley is a writer who more often than not gets my blood boiling, but he has written a good tribute to Larry. It reads in part:

Munson painted the picture ? indeed, that?s how the famous voice would introduce a game, by growling, ?Get the picture ?? ? at a time when real pictures weren?t readily available. He taught Bulldog Nation how to see and what to think and, oh yes, how to worry. He fretted over everything, and in so doing he?d manage to make a victory over Vandy seem an upset on the order of Lastinger outrunning the Texas defense.
