So THAT'S what those sounds were!

And from the schedule above, there's going to be more musket firing at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, which will coincide nicely with the PWUMC Celebration Service in the Family Life Center.

At least they are not doing it in conjunction with the Christmas Candlelight Tour!

The Bay kids got a tour on Friday, and I took the kids back today. It was interesting- fun camping, totally in character and costume. The cannon was loud. We have been to other larger reenactments, but I have to say this one had the most beautiful setting.

love having the civil war right here in Pt Washington. the Montessori kids enjoyed it on Friday, then we enjoyed it with friends yesterday. I've missed the reenactments - they were fairly common several years ago at Eden. Haven't seen them in a while. Glad they are back in the hood. what a setting!

That is an awesome picture!

And the cannons were in full combat mode about half an hour ago. Ground shook over here!

Thanks! the control burn smoke was thick..... we had a discussion in class before we went to the reenactment and talked about how, when the war was going on...it might have smelled and looked a lot like that....burning houses...trees....towns...so sad. the kids really responded to the whole thing...you cannot beat experiential education.

What a great time. We took the in-laws for the skirmish then mosied back here to Tara for some lasagna and homemade bread. I think the rebs won today.

Funny you mentioned that since during the Civil War many people would take picnic blankets and watch battles for entertainment.

Yes! It was a popular thing to do, not just some weirdos. At the First Bull Run, the retreating army was slowed by picnickers fleeing - among them congressmen and their families who had come to watch the easy victory.
