Ski North Carolina w/ kids?

I was planning on taking my kids to swim with the manatee in the crystal river region, but they want to go skiing. I actually cancelled a ski trip to Breckenridge to spend time with them during their mardi gras break.

But I have a question for my fellow sowallers. Because I can't jsutify the money needed for a flight and trip to the Rockies, I am looking at North Carolina. Two slopes I recognized right off are Cataloochee and Wolf Ridge. Each has accomodations near by that are very reasonable and the lift tickets and ski rentals at each are also well priced.

My question is if anyone has skied either or both and could give recommendations. I know there may be some better mountains a little further away, and Ober there also. But my 7 and 9 year olds have never been skiing before so I don't need a lot of mountain. But I wonder which mountain offers the best layout, slopes etc. for kids especially. I know there isn't much variety or excitement in these options, but...
