A precursor and qualifier for next summer's World Cup 2010.
By some extremely fortunate turn of events, WE clawed ourselves into the semi-finals. And for that good fortune, we now get to take on the #1 team in the world, SPAIN!
Today, 1:15PM on ESPN. And if you need a nicely air-conditioned, wall-to-wall falt screens place to watch, it does not get any better than Jambone! (That's where I will be.)
USA! USA! USA!

USA! USA! USA!!!!
That was just a phenominal and historic win for the United States! Perhaps the biggest vcitory EVER for Us, as I don't believe we have EVER beaten the #1 team in the world before.
Now it is on to the Finals, against either Brazil or South Africa (to be decided today), for a clinched spot in next summer's World Cup and to bring home Our biggest piece of silverware in the history of our international competition!!
Come On YOU Red, White & Blue!

CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH............USA v. BRAZIL........TODAY.........1:00PM.............ESPN.
Best Places to Watch (in no specific order):
JamBone (Totally committed wall of flatscreens, and in HD and stereo. A locals preference.)
Red Bar (Usually has back room committed, and beach accessible,...and Oli of course. Good mix of local and tourists.)
Shades at the Loop (Great wrap around bar, beers on tap, and flat screens. East enders, local or tourists, best option.)
Bud and Alleys (Not as committed, but there is the view and it is in Seaside. More appealing to Tourists.)
McTigh's Irish Pub (If it's Football, it's Irish, it's in Blue Mountain, and it's here!)
Regardless of where you watch, enjoy! USA! USA! USA!!!!

Gutted. How is it U.S.A 2-0 Brazil at halftime, then 2-3 final.
Bob Bradley, thank you for your service, but we need someone better.

I actually cursed when Brazil went up by one goal, even though I have no idea what the implications might be to losing to them. It was on at the Red Bar, soundtrack courtesy of Dread Clampitt and Sam Bush. So help explain to those of us out here who know little to nothing about international soccer what this means...no USA in the World Cup?:idontno:

U.S.A. is not officially out of it, as we can still (and probably will) qualify the old fashioned way, which is by finishing top three in the CONCACAF Region. Our competition consists of Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, trinidad & Tobago, and El Salvador. So far, we have only lost to Coasta Rica at their skating rink of a home field. That said, we had a GOLDEN opportunity to seize our first ever FIFA Tournament Championship and Trophy today (along with improving the impression of United States competitiveness throughout the world), being up 2-0 to one of the top teams in the world, and we choked. Or more importantly to me, I think the coach choked.
History was about to be made, then the clock struck midnight and we turned back into a pumpkin. We can say this is a building block and moral victory, but it just seems at this point that we need to win and take advantage of these opportunities instead of falling back on that same old tired line.

I was on my way to Orlando for meetings this week and stopped into a sports bar in Gainesville.
Truly a tail of two halfs. We were in control and Brazil was in shock after the first 45min. The killer, IMO was the quick Goal in the second half. That changed everything. If we could have prevented a goal for the first twenty minutes in the second half, I believe that we would have won.
The defense look very porous in the second half and in reality, I believe that Brazil could have/should have scored a couple of more times.
Stating that, what an amazing change over last week when we all thought that we were toast and the coach was brushing up his resume. I believe that a change is necessary, but don't you think it could have a negative (instead of positive) impact on the WWCup trials/tourney. The change should have been a year ago....
Still a great game and proud of the team!

Bradley probably saved his tushy by getting us to the final with that great 2-0 win over #1 in the world, Spain. So I imagine Sunil Gulati and the rest of the brass won't have the...stomach to change the guard one year before World Cup. And myabe Bradley saw some light through this Confed Cup process.
But I just don't think he has the tactical acumen to get our squad, OUR COUNTRY, to the next level. I'm not a big Landy-Cakes (Landon Donovan) fan, but he played his tail off throughout this tournament, and he has the quote of the moment. When asked about the loss still earning respect,..."But we’re at the point where we don’t want respect, we want to win."
