Hey guys, I am used to coming down in early May, and I just usually get a pompano rig and throw out some sand fleas. I have had some success in the past doing this, but this year we will be coming down in late July. Just wondering if I should try something different. Will the pomp run be over? I would love to catch some spanish macs or a redfish. Should I just use shrimp instead? Whatever feedback I get would be appreciated, thanks, Ben.

I fish the surf all summer and that's what I do. Never know what you'll catch. I love it when people stop by and ask what we're fishing for and we say, "whatever we catch".
Should be Reds, Lady Fish, maybe Blues.
Sand Fleas always work. I carry a smaller cast net and when there are minnows running in the swash or near shore, I'll catch them and put them on. We've had quite good luck on the small white cat fish that are right at the shore. Put them on the Pompano rig and toss it out there.
Make sure to check your license as laws changed down her for surf fishing. You have to have a license now.
Hope to see you around.

Thanks,
Do you know anything about how to target spanish mackeral or what is best to use? I had one on last year and lost it- at least that is what it looked like when it jumped out of the water. I was using shrimp and fleas. Thanks.

You also might want to consider some of the dunal lakes, the bass are beautiful this year! 😀
