Of course I know there are not any mountains, but are there any good offroad riding areas?

I recommend the Point Washington State Forest trails. You can access the Eastern Lake Loop right off of 395. 😀

Longleaf Pine trails run along most of 30A.
Pine Log has some cool single track trails. Eglin too.

If you do want to ride the trails on Eglin Reservation land, you need to go to the Jackson Guard office in Niceville, show a driver's license, sit through a brief film on 'Unexploded Ordinance and You', and pay $7 for an annual recreation pass. More information at: 850-882-4164
Commentary - Buy a permit before accessing the Eglin reservation
Which is a pretty good deal if you're in town for a while since they've got a lot of really nice land open for recreation purposes.

These maps are kind of old but will give you an idea. The trails are sandy in some places so you get simulated incline. Click the orange buttons at bottom of page for detail maps Longleaf Pine Greenway

The trails on Eglin Reservationare superior to the trails of Pt. Washington. More elevation and hard packed dirt with lots of great natural obstacles. Timber Lake in particular comes to mind.
Great thanks for the info, it sounds as if there might be nice places to ride!! Can't wait to make the move.... T-minus 30 days

I forgot about the crooked creek trail a Pine Log State Forest in Bay County. Pine Log State Forest, a Florida State Park near Lynn Haven, Panama City Panama City has a bike club, the Panama City Flyer's that maintains the trails and holds events. Juda at Big Daddy's can give you more info on both.

Take plenty of water in Pt Washington and be careful cause it's easy to get lost in a few spots. Yellowflies are out in the woods now so if you stop be prepared for a battle.
Close to 30 miles of trails in SoWal.

How common are unexploded ordinances? It sounds like a scary film like the ones they showed kids in the 60's and the Cold War. I mainly ride my bike around my neighborhood. I hate riding through sand. What's the least sandiest of the trails around here?

"ordnance" in this case, not ordinance ... two different things
