Bloody Mary/Bloody Caesar Recipe

I'm hosting the Skunky Family Thanksgiving this year. Unfortunately, Uncle Vic (City Park Skunkape) won't be coming to make his famous Bloody Marys. Cousin Craig (Saskatchewan Ape) won't be around to make the Bloody Caesars (but I do have the recipe for his Egg Nog Boat Drink-yum!). When I asked CP Skunky for his recipe he replied in typical New Orleans fashion -- ahh, you go into the kitchen and you get you a little of the tomato juice or what have you, and you get you a jar of salsa, the kind on the second shelf in the middle at Dorignac's, then you dump it in the Cuisinart and blend it and then taste and see what it needs and you fix it from there.

So, can anyone help me out with a good tomato juice-based recipe and save Skunky Thanksgiving? Come on BR, I'm counting on you....

ok my brother makes some great bloody mary's i'll try to get his recipe, however he uses tobasco bloody mary mix. not sure if you want to use a mix or not?:idontno:
these are the ingredients

tobasco bloody mary mix
vodka
sea salt/ black pepper from grinder
lemon (fresh)
lime (fresh)
horseradish (not the sauce)
Worcestershire sauce
pickled okra (hot or mild) i like the hot

pretty much just mix all of these together to your taste preference, I wouldn't use more than 1/2 tsp. of horseradish.

I don't think it's the ingredients or the mix that matter. It's getting the right proportions and you can only determine that by taking a sip, adding a little of this, taking another sip, adding a little of that. This is why the person making the Bloody Mary's always has a smile on his face -- he/she's amazed that he was able to find the right balance AGAIN, and he/she's wasted!

I want to come to the Skunk Family Thanksgiving! I bet it will be fabulous with Rapunzel cooking it.

WTH?! "What do you mean you don't eat meat?!" "That's ok, I'll make you lamb." Remember that from My Big Fat Greek Wedding? I still love that movie....they all sound like Toots & FFF's family gatherings!

You know, I've never been able to replicate those Marys we made for Steeplechase that time. Maybe you should come help me.

Oh, and I'm totally cheating and buying most of the stuff from Cowgirl Kitchen. I'm doing turkey and dressing and Griffin style pumpkin bread. And gravy for JDarg. Perhaps a red velvet cake if I feel like being stained red for a day or two.

I love that flag store on Magazine. I've got my saints fleur de lis flag out now! I also love Dorignac's. I grew up not far from there. They have the best pickle meat. I'm down to one pack in my freezer - guess I'll be taking another road trip soon. In July, I packed up $300 of goodies from Dorignac's to bring back to the bland eating ATL. A side of xanax sounds really good! Go Tigers!

You know that shop on Magazine for British ex-pats? The one where you can get the British candy and Marmite? I think we need one of those for Louisiana ex-pats around here. Boudin, Blue Runner, gumbo crabs, Angelo Brocato's ice cream and fruit ice, Abita beer, the Times-Picayune, etc. Or we at least need to form a carpool with the IBD's.

Hey Punzy, I was going though magazines last night and came across this one:

Frozen-Cherry-Tomato Bloody Marys

An ice-cold Bloody Mary is always satisfying-until the ice melts and dilutes the drink. To solve the problem, freeze cherry tomatoes and use them in place of ice cubes.

3 pints cherry tomatoes
2 1/2 C. tomato juice
3 T. horseradish
3 T. Worestershire sauce
1 t. celery seed
2 T. fresh lime juice
2 T. pickled jalapenos
1/2 t. kosher salt
1/2 t. black pepper
1 to 1 1/2 C. chilled vodka
For garnish (all optional):
6 lime wedges
6 baby carrots, peeled, trimmed, & quartered lengthwise
6 radishes, trimmed
6 cherry tomatoes
6 celery stalks
6 asparagus stalks, blanched for 2 minutes
6 jumbo shrimp, boiled and peeled, &/or 2 T. capers

1. Stem cherry tomatoes, Rinse in cold water, dry with paper towels, and freeze at least 3 hours or up to 4 days.
2. In a large bowl, combine 2 pints frozen tomatoes with everything but the vodka and garnishes. In a blender, pulse in batches until just chunky.
3. Divide the remaining frozen tomatoes among 6 chilled glass tumblers. Add 2 to 3 T. vodka (or more), and top off with 1 C. Bloody Mary mixture. Serve with any combination of the assorted garnishes.
