I'm curious. What exactly IS NY style pizza? I had someone ask me practically the same question as yours this weekend. Must be some great pizza.
They kept saying it was nowhere near Chicago style pizza; but I still don't know what NY style is.

Who has the best NY style pizza within a 15 miles radius?
I really like Fat Clemenza's in Miramar Beach. The dough is thin and chewy. You can fold the slice and get the oil running down your arm. Mmmmm.

It is totally opposite of Chicago style. No knife and fork needed. The crust is thin and you take the slice and fold it up when you eat it.

Their pizza is best when it is fresh out of the oven. And yes, the garlic knots are incredible!

While not NY style, Bruno's in Seagrove has a fantastic pizza that makes a meal for us at least one night every time we're able to make it down.

Jack S,
I agree that Enzo's makes great pizza. I think that ours, however, is better. Our flavor profile is similar to New York style, but we get it crispy. Enzo's and Pizza by the Sea are the only pizzarias in the area that use Grande Cheese, the absolute best available. You would find that the great pizza makers in the Northeast use the same cheese.
Just for Sowallers: Say "Jersey Boy" this week and I will give you a pizza for half price. This is good for dine in or take out.

Jack S,You answered the question I really wanted to ask by volunteering that you use Grande. I went to Enzo's last night, it is very close geographically, and I was very happy with my order, man when that cheese just starts setting up! I will see you tomorrow night I think. I will say "Jersey Boy" to you but I want to still pay full price since you freely expressed the magic words that = quality.

*ETA* I may be a bit shy to actually say "Jersey Boy" at you, but I will at least write "Jersey Boy" on a slip of paper and expose it to you.

From hence forth I will NOT drink Red Stripe while reading your posts. I'll be smelling beer tomorrow afternoon.

Boy, everyone is going to smoke me for this, but I have to disagree. To me the crust is everything. Yours is too crispy. New York style is not crispy. I tried to fold it and it broke in half! But remember that is just me and 99.99999% of all in SoWal will disagree with me anyway.

Careful about exposing your Jersey boy in public.

Not within 15 miles, but Momo's in Tallahassee (slices as big as your head) is the best!

I am a pizza fanatic. I think many places get parts of good pizza. What I have learned in my pizza travels is that it is always the company which adds or takes away from good pizza. "Company" can be the people with whom you are dining, or the people who are working in the pizza joint, or the other patrons in the restaurant with you. My favorite pizza in the USA is Marco's Pizzeria in Asheville, NC. They use fresh, torn balls of Mozzarella Cheese, fresh leaves of basil, great tomato sauce, and freshly cracked black pepper -- Yummy. However, the "crust" isn't crusty because they cook it on a pan rather than a brick, so the crust steams a little bit. Marco's used to be a pizza joint with about 10 tables, and Marco (from Brooklyn) was usually working, talking to everyone who came in. The two servers they had were really cool, too. Marco's felt like home to me. Marco has since moved a half a mile down the street into a bigger restaurant, and he is still there, but they lost that homey feeling. The pizza hasn't changed, but I really think that homey feeling made their pizza more delicious.
Around SoWal, Pizza by the Sea has my favorite pizza crust in town. I like the crispiness. The atmosphere is fun and friendly, but not quite as homey as Marco's, but the personalities of Bryan and staff certainly add very much to the flavor of their pizza. Cooking for someone should be done with love and respect for the diners, and I sense that they understand this, when I walk in the door at Pizza by the Sea.
Bryan, I think you may be busy with Jersey Boy specials on Mtn Film nights. 8)
I still haven't tried Fat Clemenza's yet, but have heard nothing but great things about it.
FYI- There is a new pizza joint opening in Blue Mtn Beach soon, or at least they are supposed to be, but they seem to be going slow pace with construction. I think that place has much potential if he will be doing everything I hear.

I will be going to NYC in 2 weeks. I will probably eat pizza 5 or 6 times while I am there. My favorite pizzeria is in Brooklyn, right under the Bklyn Bridge. It is the original Patsy Grimaldi's. Mango......you should try Johnny's in Mt. Vernon, right by the Gramatan Circle. They have been in Mt. Vernon for over 70 years....same family, third generation. I 've been going there myself for over 50 years !!! My second favorite pizza joint in the whole world !!!!!
