there are so many food blogs its hard to find a place to begin and a way to focus. I find it incredible to see so many really talented cooks of all kinds contributing the most beautiful food blogs complete with photography, from pastry to savory, ethnic foods, regional foods, traditional, gourmet, fusion, and on and on.

I thought I would just start by giving a link or two to the ones I have seen. but I am still just starting out on the quest for the best food blogs/sites. maybe some of you have some favorites you would like to share, or do you have a food blog of your own?

Serious Eats
this is a comprehensive blog & site with articles, blogs, recipes, shopping - all about food. one feature I like is the photograzing section. photos of beautiful dishes - click on one for the recipe.

Italian Food Forever
just an old personal favorite site all about Italian food - this site has been around for a long time. rather authentic stuff. according to the site we need to mark our calendars for international day of italian cuisines - Jan 17.

Proud Italian Cook
here is one I haven't had a chance to review but at first glance the photos are delicous! A Chicago Italian food blog! omg, they are making homemade ravioli.

Kitchenique

our own local Vickie McCain has a beautiful kitchen shop in Destin (near destin commons) and offers many cooking classes by local chefs and other experts in the fields of food and wine. If you check her class schedule on the website you will find some terrific recipes from some of the classes. she won't mind. but sign up for a class -you will not be disappointed. its always a wonderful meal with wine and friends.

there are literally hundreds and thousands of food blogs online - I've briefly looked at dozens. some of them look so beautiful! no doubt they would be very useful for reading and finding perfect recipes! who has the time to find the ones that appeal?

what I like about the blogs I've seen is that many of them feature absolutely beautiful photography. the visuals make a huge impression when reading about foods and recipes.

If you have favorite food blogs or sites, let us hear about them!

which one?

I am wanting to find and share excellent food blogs but not necessarily restaurant reviews - unless the blog includes recipes and other cooking related content - I'm sure there are some sites like this.

I want to make that Poppy Seed Lemon cake too!!! If I try it I will also post back.

P.S. The "Mythbusters" confirmed that eating poppy seed bakery products might lead to a positive on a drug test. Can eating a poppy seed bagel cause you to fail a drug test? -- Legal Issues -- The Opium Poppy FAQ

In case you're looking for a cheap pantry high there are several.

Poppy seeds eaten in a large enough quantity can have the same effect as heroin.

Eat enough nutmeg and you'll be seeing the music this coming weekend.

The Nourishing Gourmet

I was looking for rice salad recipes and came across this food blog/site:

The Nourishing Gourmet

I would like to try the gorgonzola, walnut and grape rice salad recipe:
Gorgonzola, Walnut and Grape Rice Salad - here it is. I will leave off the grapes because I just do not like cold/juicy grapes in my savory food. but I may add a crunchy dried fruit like a cranberry...

Gorgonzola, Walnut and Grape Rice Salad

2 cups of a wild rice mix*
Combine in a medium pot with 4 cups of water and a teaspoon of salt. Bring to a boil, cover, and reduce heat to the lowest setting and cook for 50 minutes or until done. When done, remove from heat, take of the lid and cool while you get the rest of the ingredients ready. You want to combine the ingredients with the rice when it is still warm (it will soak in more flavor), but not pipping hot. If you need to cool quickly, turn out onto a large plate and stir/flip over occasionally.
1 cup of red grapes, washed and halved or quartered
1 cup of celery, washed and very thinly sliced
1 cup of toasted walnuts (toasted in a heavy pan over med-high heat, just until slightly browned and aromatic)
Around 1/4 to 1/3 of a pound of Gorgonzola, crumbled, (probably around 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup)
Dressing:
1/3 cup of champagne vinegar
2/3 cup of olive oil
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
I garlic clove
Combine dressing ingredients and pour over the rest of the ingredients. Toss to mix. Serve this dish at room temperature, or chilled.
We eat grains salads room temperature on mild days or in the winter. But on hot days, I like it chilled for at least a few hours. I even have put grain salads in the freezer to more quickly cool them (just don?t forget it and stir it once in a while!). Just beware that it will soak up some of the dressing when you chill it, so toss with a little extra vinegar and oil for more flavor right before serving.
*The mix I used included regular brown rice, red rice, short brown rice, and wild rice

anyone else have any good rice salad recipes? I'll add this one to the recipe thread once I have tried it out and if I find it is worthy...

Oh crap. I forgot to post about the Poppy Seed Lemon Cake. I did not love the consistency of it...sorta too spongy for me. The flavor was good--but I would have liked more lemon. Loved the crunch from all the seeds. If I made it again, I would make a traditional Lemon cake and just add the same amount of poppy seeds. It was true to what the blog lady said though--not very sweet and quite different.
